Plus Size Edit Privacy Policy: What We Collect and Why

Last updated

This policy covers plussizeedit.com and the email addresses at that domain. “Plus Size Edit”, “we” and “us” mean the site and Rebecca Nusbaum, who runs it and is responsible for the personal data described here. Questions about this policy go to [email protected].

The short version: you can read every page here without an account, a form or a newsletter. We do not currently run advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

What we collect

When you read the site. Like any website, ours is delivered by servers that receive technical information with each request: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the page you came from, and the time. Our hosting provider processes this to deliver pages and to block abusive traffic. We do not combine it with anything else to identify you.

When you email us. We receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write or attach. That is used to reply to you and, for corrections, to fix the article.

What we do not collect. There are no user accounts, comment sections, contact forms or newsletter sign-ups on the site, and we do not ask for payment details because we do not sell anything.

Analytics

The site does not currently use an analytics service. If we add one, this page will be updated before it goes live, naming the service and what it records.

Cookies and similar technologies

Plus Size Edit does not set cookies of its own for tracking or advertising, and it does not store anything in your browser to recognise you later.

Our hosting and security provider may set a strictly necessary cookie to tell people from automated traffic. It is not used to follow you around the web.

Retailers and affiliate networks you reach through our links set their own cookies on their own sites, covered by their own policies (see below).

Some articles link to retailers through affiliate programs. When you follow one, the retailer or the affiliate network (for example Awin) may set a cookie on its own site so that, if you buy something, the sale is credited to us. The retailer and network handle that data as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.

What comes back to us is a report of commissions earned: typically the retailer, the date and the order value. We do not receive your name, address or payment details.

Our guides link to manufacturers, brands and retailers. When you follow a link, the site you arrive at can see which of our pages sent you there. Its privacy policy, not ours, applies from that point.

Who handles data for us

We use a small number of providers, each only for the job described:

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and its images, protects it from abusive traffic, and routes email sent to our domain.
  • Our email provider stores the messages you send us and our replies.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We would disclose information only if the law required it.

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We process server data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website. We process your emails on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you, or to take steps you have asked for, such as correcting an article.

How long we keep it

  • Emails you send us, and our replies: for as long as we need to deal with your message, and no longer than 6 months after our last reply. Ask us to delete them sooner and we will.
  • Server and security logs: kept by our hosting provider for a short period under its own retention policy; we do not keep separate copies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the UK and EU GDPR and the privacy laws of California and other US states, you may have the right to:

  • find out what personal information we hold about you and get a copy,
  • have it corrected or deleted,
  • object to or restrict how we use it,
  • not be discriminated against for using these rights.

To use any of them, email [email protected]. We will reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm the request comes from your own address. If you are in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Because we do not sell or share personal information for advertising, there is nothing to opt out of. Browser signals such as Global Privacy Control are respected by default.

Children

The site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the UK and EU. If you believe a child has emailed us, tell us and we will delete the message.

Changes to this policy

When something here changes, for example if we add an analytics service, we update this page and the “last updated” date above it.
