Heavy Duty Camping Cot: 6 Picks Rated 400 to 600 lb

Six camping cots whose makers print 400 to 600 lb, with each label as printed, plus sleep surface sizes, heights, cot weights, packed sizes and prices.

Cover card reading “Heavy Duty Camping Cot: 6 Picks Rated 400 to 600 lb” over canvas shelters with string lights and wooden chairs at a campsite in a pine forest

You lie down on a borrowed camp cot, the fabric sinks until a crossbar finds your back, and your elbows hang off both sides. Buying the one labelled oversize does not settle it, because oversize is a word about size: Kamp-Rite’s Oversize Kwik Cot is rated to 350 lb. Below are six cots whose makers print a weight figure of 400 lb or more, with the size of the part you lie on, its height, how heavy it is to carry, and who each one suits.

The short answer

Pick Best for Price (reference) Why
TETON Sports Outfitter XXL One heavy sleeper on their own $200 600 lb; 80 × 35.5 in surface
Disc-O-Bed 2XL Single Broad or tall sleepers who want more room $350 (2XL) 600 lb in its spec block; 85 × 39.5 in sleep area
Disc-O-Bed XL Single No middle bar for $100 less than the 2XL $250 (XL) 500 lb per single cot; 79 × 35 in
KingCamp Compact Folding Camping Cot Carrying it any distance $210 551 lb; 8.8 lb on the spec list
Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot Two sleepers well under 500 lb combined, or one who wants width $99.99 500 lb (total); 85 × 55 in bed
TETON Sports Outfitter XL Sleepers well under 400 lb on a budget $130 400 lb; 80 × 27 in surface

What the weight figure covers

Each maker labels its number its own way. TETON prints Cot Weight Capacity for each size. Disc-O-Bed prints Weight Tolerance 500lbs (227kg) – per single cot on its XL; the same cots are also sold as two-cot bunk sets. KingCamp prints Weight Capacity. Kamp-Rite’s double cot prints Capacity: 500 lbs (total), a figure for everyone on the bed together.

One page shows why the label matters. Byer of Maine says its Maine Military Cot HD “has been strength tested to a capacity of 1,100 pounds and has a conservative weight capacity of 375 pounds”, and its spec line gives Weight Limit: 375 lbs. We go by the 375, which is under this guide’s 400 lb floor, so that cot is not among the picks.

Our reading, not the makers’: hold your own weight against the rating, and on a two-person cot, the sum of both weights. Leave room above it, since you sit on the edge to get in and out.

The six cots

TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot

$200Price for reference only600 lb Cot Weight Capacity · 80 × 35.5 in sleeping surface · in use 86 × 45 × 19.5 in · 26 lb item weight · packs to 45 × 7.5 × 13 inView it on the brand's site →

If you only buy one cot, start here. TETON prints 600 lbs for the XXL in both its description and its spec list, on a sleeping surface of 80 by 35.5 inches. That is 8.5 inches wider than the Outfitter XL’s surface for $70 more (our arithmetic). What TETON calls its patented pivot arm is a built-in lever that swivels what the page calls “the final, tightest crossbar” into place, and the page lists one-person set-up and take-down.

Drawbacks: The page gives two weights, 26 lb as item weight and 24 lb as pack weight. It does not label its in-use dimensions, so treating 19.5 in as its height is our reading. Its spec list says the frame is aluminum while the description says steel legs.

Disc-O-Bed 2XL Single

$350 (2XL)Price for reference only600 lb Weight Tolerance · 85 × 39.5 in sleep area · 14.5 in deck (shop), 15.5 in (bunk-set page) · 36 lb · bag 47 × 21 × 4.5 inView it on the brand's site →

The pick if you are broad, tall or both. Disc-O-Bed calls it “our widest and longest bunkable cot system yet”, and against the Large and XL on the same shop page the figures bear that out, with a sleep area of 85 by 39.5 inches. The 2XL spec block on the shop page and the brand page give a Weight Tolerance of 600 lb, while the line under the shop price reads “500 lb Capacity” and a heading further down “500lbs Capacity Per Single Cot”. Against the XL below, the 2XL is 4.5 inches wider, 6 inches longer and $100 more (our arithmetic). The deck height is 14.5 in on the shop page and 15.5 in on Disc-O-Bed’s bunk-set page, 3.5 to 4.5 inches higher than the XL’s (our arithmetic), on a powder-coated steel frame.

Drawbacks: At $350 it is the most expensive of the six picks, and at 36 lb it weighs 10 lb more than the Outfitter XXL's 26 lb item weight (our arithmetic). Its pages give different outer heights and two deck heights (14.5 and 15.5 in), and the shop page shows a 500 lb capacity line on the same page as the 600 lb in its 2XL spec block.

Disc-O-Bed XL Single

$250 (XL)Price for reference only500 lb per single cot · 79 × 35 in sleep area · 11 in sleeping deck · 29.5 lb · bag 39.5 × 15.5 × 4.5 inView it on the brand's site →

The pick if you want the Disc-O-Bed design for less: lower, lighter and $100 cheaper than the 2XL (our arithmetic). Both Disc-O-Beds share the no-centre-bar build (the shop page that sells both lists “No Center Bar”); the XL page lists “No hinges, no pinched fingers, no middle bar in your back”, and gives it a Weight Tolerance of 500 lb per single cot on a sleep area of 79 by 35 inches. The shop page puts the sleeping deck at 11 inches, a long way down if getting up off low seats is hard for you. It weighs 29.5 lb and goes in a 39.5 inch bag.

Drawbacks: An 11 inch deck is the lowest labelled deck height of the six picks; the KingCamp's unlabelled 11.8 in is in the same range. The Disc-O-Bed Large shares the same 500 lb figure on a 28 inch wide sleep area, so check which size you are buying.

KingCamp Compact Folding Camping Cot

$210Price for reference only551 lb Weight Capacity · unfolded 78.7 × 28.3 × 11.8 in · 8.8 lb (6–10 lb badge) · packs to 25.1 × 6.6 × 6.6 inView it on the brand's site →

The pick if you carry your bed any distance. KingCamp prints 551 lbs as Weight Capacity, a maximum load of 250 kg in its copy, and a weight of 8.8 lb in its tech specs, alongside a badge reading 6-10 lbs. Packed, it is 25.1 by 6.6 by 6.6 inches, the shortest packed length of the six picks. The brackets are 7075 aviation aluminum alloy, and KingCamp says the legs extend the width to 72 cm against a 64 cm standard.

Drawbacks: The page prints no sleeping-surface size; 28.3 inches is the overall width with the legs extended, so the part you lie on is narrower (our reading). The 11.8 inch figure we read as height (our reading) puts it close to the ground.

Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot

$99.99Price for reference only500 lb (total) · 85 × 55 in bed · 19 in high · 33 lb (37 lb in another tab) · folds to 42 × 11 × 11 inView it on the brand's site →

The pick for two people, or for one big sleeper who wants room to turn over. Kamp-Rite calls it the two-person version of its Kwik Cot line, with an 85 by 55 inch bed that stands 19 inches high set up, a powder-coated frame, a 600D fabric base, a padded head section and a mesh storage hammock underneath. Kamp-Rite does not say how the 500 lb splits between the two sides; we read it as the sum of everyone on the bed, so add both weights and keep the sum well under 500 lb (our reading). It is the lowest-priced of the six picks.

Drawbacks: The 500 lb is a total for two people, so two heavy sleepers can be over it together. The page gives two weights, 33 lb in the spec list and 37 lb under additional information.

TETON Sports Outfitter XL Camp Cot

$130Price for reference only400 lb Cot Weight Capacity · 80 × 27 in sleeping surface · in use 84.25 × 35.4 × 20.87 in · 24 lb · packs to 43 × 9 × 6 inView it on the brand's site →

The budget pick, for someone well under 400 lb who wants TETON’s pivot arm for less. It is on the same page as the XXL, with Cot Weight Capacity 400 lbs on an 80 by 27 inch sleeping surface, and TETON calls it an updated version of its Universal XL. The 20.87 in, the third in-use figure, we read as height (our reading).

Drawbacks: 400 lb is the rating itself, so it leaves no room for a 400 lb sleeper. At 27 inches, its surface is the narrowest of the five printed sleeping surfaces among the six picks.

“Unlabelled” means the page prints three in-use or unfolded figures without saying which is height; we read the last one as height.

How to choose

  • Weight first. Take your weight from a scale, not memory, and pick a cot with clear room above it. A 380 lb sleeper has 220 lb of room on a 600 lb cot and 20 lb on a 400 lb one (our arithmetic).
  • Then width. Lie on your back on the floor with your arms at your sides and have someone measure across your elbows. The printed surfaces among the six picks run from 27 inches on the Outfitter XL to 39.5 on the Disc-O-Bed 2XL for one person, and 55 on the Kamp-Rite double. On a double, half the bed is 27.5 inches each (our arithmetic).
  • Length. Your height plus a few inches for a pillow should fit inside the surface length: 79 to 85 inches on the five picks that print one. Disc-O-Bed’s shop page says all its cots fit users up to 6’4”, with more room in the 2XL.
  • Height off the ground. Measure the seat of a chair you get out of easily at home. Labelled deck heights: 11 inches on the Disc-O-Bed XL, 14.5 or 15.5 on the 2XL. The Kamp-Rite stands 19 set up. The unlabelled figures we read as heights are 11.8 on the KingCamp and 19.5 and 20.87 on the TETONs (our reading).
  • How you carry it. From a car, the 36 lb 2XL is fine. On foot or in a canoe, the KingCamp’s 8.8 lb and 25.1 inch packed length matter more than width.

Before you order

  • A rating belongs to one size, not the brand. The TETON page gives 200 lb for the Outfitter L, 400 for the XL and 600 for the XXL. Kamp-Rite’s Oversize Kwik Cot is rated 350 lb, under its own Double Kwik Cot’s 500 lb total.
  • Read all the weight figures on the page. Three of the six picks print two cot weights; plan on the higher one.
  • Choose the size before checkout. Disc-O-Bed sells the Large, XL and 2XL on one product page at different prices, and TETON lists the L, XL and XXL on one page.
  • Pair the chair too. If you also need somewhere to sit at camp, our heavy duty camping chairs 400 lbs guide uses the same rule on ratings. More gear for bigger bodies is in sports gear.
  • Read the return terms before you pay; width and height show up once you lie down.

Where these numbers come from

Ratings, dimensions, weights and prices are from the TETON Sports, Disc-O-Bed, KingCamp, Kamp-Rite and Byer of Maine pages linked above, read on 1 October 2026. Differences and per-person widths are our arithmetic.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight can a heavy duty camping cot hold?

The six picks here print 400 to 600 lb, each under its own label: Cot Weight Capacity 600 lb for the TETON Outfitter XXL and 400 lb for the Outfitter XL, Weight Tolerance 600 lb for the Disc-O-Bed 2XL (its shop page also shows 500 lb Capacity) and 500 lb per single cot for the Disc-O-Bed XL, Weight Capacity 551 lb for the KingCamp Compact, and Capacity 500 lb (total) for the two-person Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot.

What camping cot is best for a 400 lb person?

One whose figure sits well above your weight, not at it. Of the six picks, the TETON Outfitter XXL prints 600 lb and the Disc-O-Bed 2XL 600 lb in its spec block (its shop page also shows 500 lb Capacity), the KingCamp Compact 551 lb and the Disc-O-Bed XL 500 lb per single cot. Start with the Outfitter XXL; if you want more width, the 2XL. The two-person Kamp-Rite prints 500 lb total. The Outfitter XL's 400 lb leaves no room at 400 lb.

How wide is a heavy duty cot?

Of the six picks, five print a sleeping surface: 27 inches wide on the TETON Outfitter XL, 35 on the Disc-O-Bed XL, 35.5 on the TETON Outfitter XXL, 39.5 on the Disc-O-Bed 2XL, and 55 on the two-person Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot. The KingCamp Compact prints only its overall unfolded width, 28.3 inches.

Is there a camping cot for two heavy people?

Of the six picks, one is a two-person cot: the Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot, with an 85 by 55 inch bed and Capacity 500 lbs (total). Kamp-Rite does not say how that splits between the two sides; add both your weights and keep the sum well under 500 lb (our reading). Two heavier sleepers may do better on two single cots side by side (our reading).
