Heavy Duty Beach Chairs: Six Folding Picks, 350 to 400 lb
Six folding beach chairs with a printed 350 to 400 lb figure: seat heights from 8 to 16 inches, seat widths where printed, folded sizes and chair weights.

You carry a beach chair down to the water, sit, and feel the seat sag towards the sand as you shift your weight. Buying the one labelled oversized did not fix it, because oversized describes the size of a chair and says nothing about the load. The six folding chairs below each print a figure of 350 to 400 lb on the page linked, with the seat height and seat width where the page gives them, the folded size, and what the chair weighs to carry.
The short answer

| WEJOY AQUAL B10 XL | A 21.5 in seat width and hard arms for under $70 | 396 lbs (180 kg) | $69.99 |

The six chairs
Kelty Lowdown Chair
The Lowdown prints a Weight Capacity of 400 lb on a seat 12 inches off the ground, with 17 inches of back above the seat. Kelty describes it as lower to the ground and slightly reclined, with adjustable arm rests and two insulated drink holders. It weighs 7.38 lb and packs to 32.5 by 8 by 8 inches. Start here if you want a low seat with a 400 lb figure for under $80.
Drawbacks: No seat width is printed; the 21 x 20 x 29 inch dimensions do not say which figure is the width. Kelty pitches it at campfires and stages rather than the beach, and the frame is steel rather than aluminum.
GoSports Outdoors WOVN Premium Beach & Camping Chair
GoSports says the powder coated aluminum frame supports up to 400 lbs, and gives the seat height as 16 inches, which it calls taller and describes as a natural sitting position. Of the five printed seat heights among the six picks it is the highest, 8 inches above the YETI (our arithmetic). It has hardwood armrests and backpack straps. Buy it if getting back up off the sand matters more to you than sitting low.
Drawbacks: Neither the page text nor the product images give a seat width, overall size or folded size, so there is nothing to hold against your hips before ordering. At 10 lb it is the second heaviest of the six, after the YETI.

WEJOY WAVORA B10 PLUS Beach Chair with Canopy Shade
WEJOY prints a Weight Capacity of 400 lbs (180 kg) for this chair, which comes with a detachable UPF50+ shade. The back reclines through four positions and the armrests are hard. The chair alone weighs 6.61 lb, the lightest of the six picks, and the text gives a folded size of 25.6 by 25.2 by 4.3 inches. A dimension drawing in the product images shows the folded chair at 25 by 12 by 4 inches instead, and marks the open chair 25, 26 and 50 inches without labels, the 50 running to the top of the shade. Pick it if a day on the sand means sitting in full sun.
Drawbacks: Neither the text nor the product images give a seat height or seat width; the 26.4 inch width is the whole open chair. The 400 lbs and the AQUAL's 396 lbs are both printed as 180 kg, so read 400 as rounded rather than extra room (our reading).
WEJOY AQUAL B10 XL Oversized Folding Beach Chair
The AQUAL B10 XL prints a Weight Capacity of 396 lbs (180 kg) and a 15.4 inch seat height, which WEJOY calls an elevated seat for getting in and out. A comparison table in its product images gives a Seat Width of 21.5 inches beside a Max Load of 396 lbs, and a dimension image gives a product weight of 8.6 lb. The armrests are hard, and the page describes them as a surface to push off when standing. U-shaped legs are meant to keep it from sinking into soft sand, and it folds flat to 31.1 by 26 by 2.4 inches. It is $69.99 for one chair or $120 for two.
Drawbacks: The 21.5 inch seat width and the 8.6 lb weight appear only in product images; the 25 inch width in the text is the whole open chair. The frame is steel, where the WAVORA's is aluminum.
Portal Outdoors Low Beach Chair, Compact Design
Portal’s page prints a Weight Capacity of 350 lbs and describes an 18-inch widened seat with a 24-inch high backrest. Its size image labels the chair surface 15.7 inches deep by 20.9 wide, marks 20.86 inches across the seat, and gives a seat height of 8.66 inches; a second drawing has an unlabelled 9 inch mark beside the seat. The frame is steel and the armrests are sponge-wrapped. It weighs 7 lb in the text (6.7 lb in the size image) and folds to 6.7 by 6.7 by 30 inches in the spec list. At $44.99 for one, or $79.99 for two, it is the cheapest of the six picks.
Drawbacks: At 350 lbs it shares the lowest figure of the six picks with the YETI. The page's own figures differ: 18 against 20.9 inches of seat, 7 against 6.7 lb, and an FAQ answer gives a bagged size of 20.2 by 18 by 24.6 inches against the spec list's 6.7 by 6.7 by 30.
YETI Hondo Beach Chair
L.L.Bean lists the Hondo at a Capacity of 350 lb with an 8 inch seat height, an 11.2 lb weight and open dimensions of 30.5 by 26.5 by 29.4 inches. Kittery Trading Post lists a 350 lbs weight capacity, a weight of 11 lbs 2 oz and a folded height of 29 inches. It has an aluminum frame, four reclining positions and a shoulder strap. Choose it if you want to sit closest to the sand and the price is not the deciding number.
Drawbacks: At $300 it is the most expensive of the six picks, more than twice the $130 GoSports (our arithmetic). The 350 lb figure here comes from two retailers' listings. No seat width is printed, and the 8 inch seat is the furthest to rise from of the five printed seat heights.

How to choose
Your weight against the printed figure
Take the number on the page, not the words heavy duty or XL. If you are near 350 lb, the Portal and the YETI leave no room; the other four print 396 or 400 lbs. The two WEJOY figures are both printed as 180 kg, which is about 397 lb (our arithmetic), so treat the WAVORA’s 400 as that rounded.
Your seated hip width against the seat
Sit on a hard surface and measure across your hips at the widest point; the method is in our wide office chair guide. Two of the six print a seat width. The AQUAL’s product image gives 21.5 inches; Portal’s text says 18 inches and its size image 20.9 for the chair surface, so ask Portal which figure you will sit on. The WAVORA page and the YETI’s L.L.Bean listing give 26.4 and 26.5 inches for the whole open chair, frame included.
Your knee height against the seat height
Measure from the floor to the front edge of a chair you get out of without pushing hard. The five printed seat heights run from 8 inches (YETI) and 8.66 (Portal, in its size image) through 12 (Kelty) and 15.4 (WEJOY AQUAL) to 16 (GoSports). If the seat you rise from easily at home is about 16 inches, the GoSports is the match among these. If you want to sit low with your legs out on the sand, the YETI and the Portal print the two lowest seats, both under 9 inches.
If you need a higher seat still, the four seat heights printed in our heavy duty camping chairs 400 lbs guide run from 18.5 to 22.4 inches.
What you carry
Chair weights run from 6.61 lb (WAVORA) through 6.7 or 7 (Portal, image and text), 7.38 (Kelty), 8.6 (AQUAL, image) and 10 (GoSports) to 11.2 (YETI). The two WEJOY chairs and the YETI fold flat; the Kelty and the Portal pack into long bundles, 32.5 and 30 inches long.

Before you order
- Read the spec line, not the title. One Sunnyfeel listing is titled 5 Position 500LBS Backpack Beach Chair, and its description says the steel frame “affords up to 225 LBS (102 KG) weight capacity”. Plan around the lower number until the seller tells you otherwise.
- Ask for the seat width. Four of the six picks print none; the AQUAL gives its 21.5 inches only in a product image, and the Portal gives 18 inches in its text and 20.9 in an image. One message to the seller settles it.
- Think about where you will sit. The AQUAL’s page describes U-shaped legs against sinking in soft sand, and the Portal’s widened, angle adjustable feet; a chair you plan to leave in one place in the garden may be better chosen from our heavy duty lawn chairs.
More seating guides are in the seating section.
Where these numbers come from
Ratings, dimensions, weights and prices are from each maker’s product page and product images, linked on each chair, read on 1 October 2026; the YETI Hondo’s figures and price are from the L.L.Bean and Kittery Trading Post listings linked in its entry, read the same day. Differences, ratios and the kilogram conversion are our arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
Which beach chairs hold 400 lbs?
Of the six picks here, three print 400: the Kelty Lowdown (Weight Capacity 400 lb), the GoSports WOVN Premium Beach & Camping Chair (supports up to 400 lbs) and the WEJOY WAVORA B10 PLUS (Weight Capacity 400 lbs, 180 kg). The WEJOY AQUAL B10 XL prints 396 lbs, also given as 180 kg.
Are there heavy duty beach chairs rated for 350 lbs?
Two of the six picks are listed at 350: the Portal Outdoors Low Beach Chair, at Weight Capacity 350 lbs on Portal's own page, and the YETI Hondo Beach Chair, at 350 lb on the L.L.Bean and Kittery Trading Post listings. The other four print 396 or 400 lbs.
How low is the seat on a low beach chair?
Five of the six picks print a seat height: the YETI Hondo 8 inches (on the L.L.Bean listing), the Portal Outdoors Low Beach Chair 8.66 (in its size image), the Kelty Lowdown 12, the WEJOY AQUAL B10 XL 15.4 and the GoSports WOVN Premium 16, which GoSports calls a taller seat. The WEJOY WAVORA B10 PLUS page gives none, in its text or its product images.
How wide is the seat on a heavy duty beach chair?
Two of the six picks print one. A WEJOY product image gives the AQUAL B10 XL a Seat Width of 21.5 inches. Portal's text describes an 18-inch widened seat, and its size image gives the chair surface as 20.9 inches wide. The WAVORA and the YETI's L.L.Bean listing give only the whole open chair, 26.4 and 26.5 inches, which includes the frame; Kelty prints 21 x 20 x 29 inch dimensions without saying which is the width.
