Wide Armchair: 6 Picks With Seat Width and Weight Capacity
Six wide armchairs whose makers print a weight capacity of 300 to 350 lb, with seat widths from 23.6 to 38.6 inches, plus seat depth, seat height and price.

You sit down and the arms press into your hips, or the chair gives a creak you can feel, and the listing gave no number for what it was built to hold. Buying the chair that looks biggest in the photo does not settle it, because a big-looking chair can still have a narrow seat between thick arms. Below are six wide armchairs and accent chairs whose makers print a weight capacity, with the seat width, seat depth and seat height each one lists, and who each one suits.

Read the weight figure and the seat width first
Each of the six picks prints a weight figure, and none of the six prints more than 350 lb. All five CHITA chairs list it as Weight Capacity in the spec table, and three repeat it in their FAQs: 350 lbs as the maximum for the Charles and the Teddi, and 300 lbs as the Zenith’s maximum weight capacity. Mcombo prints 330lbs for the 4071 as both Weight Capacity and Maximum Weight Capacity. None of the six labels its figure static or dynamic, so read it as the one number the maker stands behind, and choose a chair whose figure is above your weight with room to spare.
If you weigh more than 350 lb, these six are not rated for you. Our bariatric chair guide includes a living-room lounge chair rated to 750 lb, and our couch for heavy person guide has sofas rated to 450 lb per seat.
Seat width is the second number. Each page prints one figure, as Seat Width or as the W in a Seat Size line, and none of the six spec lists says whether it is taken between the arms or across the cushion. Overall width is a different, larger number that includes the arms.

The six wide armchairs
CHITA Lauren Feather Filled Swivel Oversized Armchair
Start here if you want a wide armchair for everyday sitting. Its spec table gives a seat width of 31.5 inches, the widest of the four picks with a seat depth of 25.2 inches or less, and 350 lbs as its Weight Capacity. The chair is 50.4 inches wide overall and turns a full 360 degrees with no auto-return, on what the page calls a plywood upholstered base with a powder-coated steel swivel. CHITA lists a kiln-dried solid wood and engineered wood frame, corner-blocked, with a 2.0 high-density foam seat cushion, and rates the seat 3 on its own 1-to-5 firmness scale. It comes fully assembled.
Drawbacks: At 17.3 inches it shares the lowest seat height of the five picks that print one. It arrives assembled in one box that needs a doorway of 31 inches or wider.
CHITA Keaton Performance Fabric Ash Wood Base Armchair (42.5 in)
The pick if getting out of a low chair is the hard part. Its Seat Size line reads 28.4 inches wide, 24.0 deep and 19.3 high, the highest seat of the five picks that print a height, with a Weight Capacity of 350 lbs. It sits on a fixed solid ash wood base, around a corner-blocked, kiln-dried wooden frame. Both seat and back cushions are reversible with zip-off covers, filled with fiber, feather and high-resiliency foam. The product description calls for minimal assembly, attaching the legs to the seat, and gives a doorway of 26 inches or wider.
Drawbacks: Its 28.4 inch seat is narrower than the Lauren's, the Zenith's or the Charles's. CHITA's care notes say cushions may lose shape with use and suggest rotating them.
CHITA Zenith Round Soft-Touch Swivel 1.5 Seater Armchair
The pick if you like to sit sideways or tuck your legs up and weigh well under 300 lb. The page sells it as a 1.5 seater whose feature list puts the seat at up to 35 inches wide, and its Armchair Seat Size reads 35.0 inches wide, 32.3 deep and 18.5 high. Both the spec table and the FAQ give 300 lbs. It swivels 360 degrees on a metal base, and the page lists an ottoman’s dimensions (39.4 inches wide) alongside the chair, with two boxes that need a doorway of 33.5 inches or wider. Four loose back cushions can be moved around.
Drawbacks: 300 lb is the lowest figure of the six picks, and the page lists it twice. The 32.3 inch seat depth is meant for lounging, so sitting upright with your back against the cushions may leave your feet off the floor (our reading).
CHITA Charles Modern Oversized Chaise Lounge Accent Chair
For lounging with your legs out. It has the widest seat of the six picks, 38.6 inches, and a 39.4 inch seat depth, with 350 lbs as its Weight Capacity and again as the “maximum weight limit” in its FAQ. CHITA describes a kiln-dried solid wood and engineered wood frame over sinuous springs and web suspension, three throw pillows, and reversible back cushions. It comes in one box for doorways 29 inches or wider, and the FAQ says only the plastic legs need fitting, with no tools.
Drawbacks: It is a chaise, not an upright chair: at 39.4 inches the seat is deeper than it is wide, and the whole chair takes 58.7 by 62.6 inches of floor. It stands on plastic legs.
CHITA Teddi Modern Accent Chair
For a room where a 40 inch chair will not fit. Its Seat Size gives a 24.6 inch wide seat inside a chair 27.2 inches wide overall, so the arms take up little floor (our arithmetic), and the Weight Capacity is 350 lbs, the same figure as the Lauren, Keaton and Charles. The arms are solid rubberwood, a back pillow comes with it, and the page gives a minimum door width of 29 inches. It is the lower-priced CHITA pick, at $368 for one chair in Camel or $409 in Ivory.
Drawbacks: A 24.6 inch seat is a modest width; check it against your seated hip measurement. Assembly is required.
Mcombo Accent Chair with Ottoman, Fabric 4071
The pick on a budget, and it comes with a 29.5 inch square ottoman. Its seat area is 23.6 by 23.2 inches, on what the page calls a sturdy carbon steel chair frame, with a Weight Capacity of 330lbs, repeated as the Maximum Weight Capacity in the spec list. The seat cushion is 9.8 inches thick, the arm, seat and back cushions are removable, and it ships in two boxes.
Drawbacks: The page text gives no seat height. At 23.6 inches its seat is the narrowest of the six picks, inside a chair 40.9 inches wide, so the padded arms take much of the width.
Side by side

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| CHITA Keaton | 350 lbs, Weight Capacity | 28.4 in | 24.0 in | 19.3 in | 42.5 in | $854 |
| CHITA Zenith | 300 lbs, Weight Capacity | 35.0 in | 32.3 in | 18.5 in | 51.6 in | $900 |
| CHITA Charles | 350 lbs, Weight Capacity | 38.6 in | 39.4 in | 17.3 in | 58.7 in | $1,285 to $1,350 |
| CHITA Teddi | 350 lbs, Weight Capacity | 24.6 in | 22.0 in | 17.9 in | 27.2 in | $368 to $409 |
| Mcombo 4071 | 330lbs, Weight Capacity | 23.6 in | 23.2 in | Not in page text | 40.9 in | $300 |
None of the six spec lists says how its seat width is measured, so treat each figure as the maker’s and ask if you are close to it.
How to choose
Start with your weight. Over 300 lb, leave out the Zenith; over 330 lb, the Mcombo 4071 as well. Over 350 lb, none of the six is rated for you.
Then your seated hip width. Sit on a hard, flat surface and measure straight across your hips, the method in our wide office chair guide. Pick a chair whose seat width is above that number, not equal to it. At 26 inches, for example, the Lauren, Keaton, Zenith and Charles print wider seats; the Teddi and the Mcombo 4071 do not.
Then seat depth. Sit back in a chair you like and measure from the backrest to the front edge of the seat. The Teddi (22.0 inches), Mcombo 4071 (23.2), Keaton (24.0) and Lauren (25.2) are upright chairs; the Zenith (32.3) and Charles (39.4) are built for lounging, and shorter legs may not reach the floor with your back against the cushions (our reading).
Then seat height. Measure a seat you get up from without effort, floor to the top of the cushion. The Keaton is the highest of the five that print one, at 19.3 inches; the Lauren and Charles are lowest at 17.3.
Last, the room. Overall width runs from 27.2 inches (Teddi) to 58.7 (Charles). Subtracting seat width from overall width gives a rough idea of how much the arms take, 2.6 inches on the Teddi and 18.9 on the Lauren (our arithmetic), but that only holds if both figures are measured the way you would expect.

Before you order
- Find the weight figure on the maker’s page for the exact chair, not on a reseller’s listing.
- Ask how the seat width is measured if your seated hip width is within an inch or two of it.
- Check your doorways against the figures above: 26 inches for the Keaton, 29 for the Charles and Teddi, 31 for the Lauren and 33.5 for the Zenith.
- Check the price in the cart. The prices above are for one chair without any promo code, and are a reference only.
- Read the return terms on CHITA or Mcombo before you assemble anything.
Where these numbers come from
Every weight figure, dimension and price for the six chairs is from the maker’s own product page, read on 1 October 2026 and linked on each chair. The subtractions and the comparisons between chairs are our arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
How wide is the seat on a wide armchair?
Among the six picks here, the makers print seat widths from 23.6 inches (Mcombo 4071) to 38.6 inches (CHITA Charles). None of the six spec lists says whether that figure is taken between the arms or across the seat cushion, so if your seated hip measurement is within an inch or two of it, ask the maker before ordering.
What weight capacity does a wide armchair have?
Whatever its maker prints for that model. The six picks here print 300 to 350 lb: 350 lb for the CHITA Lauren, Keaton, Charles and Teddi, 330 lb for the Mcombo 4071 and 300 lb for the CHITA Zenith. None of the six labels its figure static or dynamic. If you weigh more than 350 lb, none of these six is rated for you.
How high should the seat of a wide armchair be?
About the height of a seat you already get up from without effort, measured from the floor to the top of the cushion. Five of the six picks print a seat height, from 17.3 inches (Lauren and Charles) to 19.3 inches (Keaton); the Mcombo 4071 page text gives none.
Will an extra wide armchair fit through my door?
Measure the narrowest doorway on the way in and compare it with the maker's figure. Five of the six picks print one: 26 inches for the Keaton, 29 inches for the Charles and the Teddi, 31 inches for the Lauren, which arrives fully assembled, and 33.5 inches for the Zenith's two boxes. The Mcombo 4071 ships in two boxes.
