King Size Weighted Blankets: Weights, Sizes and Washing
Five king size weighted blankets from 15 to 50 lb, with the size in inches for each weight, how far each hangs past a king mattress, fabric, fill and washing.

Two of you share a king, and the weighted blanket you bought stops short of whoever sleeps on the edge. Buying by the word king does not settle it: across the five picks below, king means anything from 76 by 80 inches to 106 by 92. Below are king size weighted blankets from 15 to 50 lb, each with its weights, its size in inches, whether it stops at the mattress edge, and how you clean it.
The short answer
| Pick | Best for | Price (reference) | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| YnM Weighted Blanket 50lb | 50 lb in a blanket rather than a comforter | $170 to $249 by size and fabric | 50 lb at 88 x 104 or 90 x 104 in |
| YnM Weighted Comforter | One king size in a range of weights | From $129 (King) | 90 x 104 in (80 x 87 in its size guide), from 15 lb |
| Hush Weighted Duvet, King | Hanging over both sides of the mattress | $399 | 30 lb, 106 x 92 in |
| Bearaby King Weighted Blanket | A knit with no beads | $349 to $499 by material | 25 lb, 76 x 80 in |
| Baloo Weighted Blanket, King, at Nest Bedding | A 100% cotton cover and lining | $274 | 25 lb (20 lb also listed), 80 x 87 in |
Top of the mattress, or over the edges
Start from the mattress. Bearaby’s size guide and YnM’s both give a standard king bed as 76 by 80 inches. Makers then split two ways. YnM’s blanket size guide says “Weighted Blankets are not meant to hang off the edge”, and pairs that 76 by 80 bed with its 80 by 87 king. Its own comforter listing goes the other way, saying it “overhangs on bed with true comforter sizing”.
So read the inches, not the label. Bearaby’s 76 by 80 matches the mattress top exactly; the Baloo king at Nest, which its FAQ says is “Designed to fit the top of a king bed”, adds 4 inches one way and 7 the other. The rest run bigger than the mattress in both directions: YnM’s 88 by 104 and 90 by 104, and Hush’s 106 by 92. Neither page says which side is the width. Laid 90 across a 76 inch king, YnM’s hangs 7 inches a side, or 14 with the 104 across (6 a side for the 88 by 104); Hush’s hangs 8 a side with 92 across, or 15 with 106 across (our arithmetic).
On a bigger bed the sums change: an oversized king bed such as a Wyoming king is 84 by 84 inches, already bigger than Bearaby’s 76 by 80 both ways, and an Alaskan king’s 108 is longer than any side of the five picks.
How heavy: the makers’ numbers
The weighing rules below are the makers’, quoted as printed; they are not ours, and not medical advice. Bearaby’s guide says “We recommend 10% of your body weight.” and, between sizes, “rounding down to the lower weight option”.
The one body-weight chart among the five picks is YnM’s. Its “Single” column ends at 240 lbs for 25 lbs; its “Couple (lightest person)” column ends at 140 - 240 lbs for 30 lbs. For two people, then, YnM keys the weight to the lighter sleeper. The chart assigns no body weight to YnM’s 40 or 50 lb blankets.
YnM sells those heavier weights anyway: its page calls the 50 lb blanket “our heaviest option” and says it is made “to share with two people”, and a sister page sells a 40 lb version.

The five picks
YnM Weighted Blanket 50lb
The pick for 50 lb in a blanket. It comes in two king-type sizes: 88 by 104 inches, which the page calls California King, and 90 by 104, which it calls King/CA King and lists in velvet only. Glass beads sit in 2 by 2 inch pockets with synthetic fiber fill, under bamboo, cotton, cotton-linen, cooling PE or velvet, with 16 loops for a duvet cover. Care reads machine washable in a cold, gentle setting, tumble dry low or line dry. A 40 lb version comes in the same two sizes, at $150 to $210 across them.
Drawbacks: Both king-type sizes are larger than the 80 x 87 in YnM's own guide recommends for a king bed, and the page labels its 90 x 104 King/CA King, a size that guide does not list. Fifty pounds is also a lot to carry to the washer.
YnM Weighted Comforter
The pick if you want a comforter: one king size, 90 by 104 inches, in a range of weights starting at 15 lb, so a couple can choose weight without changing size. It is box-stitched, with what the listing calls a 9-layer design, in 50% cotton and 50% microfiber around glass beads.
Drawbacks: The page's size guide lists King as 80 x 87 inches, against 90 x 104 in the size selector; plan on the selector's figure. Care is spot clean recommended, or a commercial machine.
Hush Weighted Duvet, King
The pick if you want it to hang over both sides. At 106 by 92 inches it has the largest surface of the five picks, 9,752 square inches by our arithmetic, and Hush’s FAQ says it can replace a regular comforter. The king weighs 30 lb; the other sizes are 15 lb for Twin/Twin XL and 25 lb for Queen. Materials read 100% polyester.
Drawbacks: Spot clean only, with no bleach, iron or dry cleaning, and Hush recommends using it inside one of its duvet covers. At 30 lb it is lighter than YnM's 50 lb blanket.
Bearaby King Weighted Blanket
The pick if you do not want beads. It is a chunky knit, and the page says “Soft, sustainable fabric is the only thing inside our blanket to give it weight.” The king is 25 lb at 76 by 80 inches, in organic cotton, a TENCEL and organic cotton blend (52/48), or 100% recycled polyester sold as Ocean. One wording gap: the Cotton description says it covers “an entire queen size bed”, the TENCEL and Ocean ones “an entire king size bed”. Its FAQ says the king is for “anyone who’s looking for a weighted blanket to cover their entire king size bed”; at 76 by 80, that is the top of the mattress (our reading). The same listing links a 20 lb queen at 60 by 80.
Drawbacks: One weight only, and at 76 by 80 nothing hangs over the sides of a king (our arithmetic). The page says hand-knit size and weight can vary slightly; the Cotton version recommends dry cleaning, and the other two a commercial size washer if needed.
Baloo Weighted Blanket, King, at Nest Bedding
The pick for cotton inside and out, sized for the mattress top. Baloo makes it; Baloo’s own site did not load for us, so the link is Nest Bedding’s page, read on 30 September 2026, which says orders are fulfilled by Baloo. It is 80 by 87 inches, 100% cotton including the lining, around glass beads. The care line is a cold wash and a medium or low tumble, but a commercial machine for kings.
Drawbacks: The specs and FAQ give the king at 25 lb, while the size selector also offers it at 20 lb, at the same price. Nest says king-size blankets should be washed in a commercial machine.
Side by side
| Pick | King weights | King size (in) | Past a 76 x 80 mattress? (our arithmetic) | Outer / fill | Cleaning as printed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YnM 50lb | 50 lb (40 lb on a sister page) | 88 x 104; 90 x 104 | Yes, both ways | Bamboo, cotton, cotton-linen, PE or velvet / glass beads, fiber | Machine wash cold, gentle |
| YnM Weighted Comforter | Listed 15 to 50 lb | 90 x 104 (80 x 87 in the size guide) | Yes, both ways | 50% cotton, 50% microfiber / glass beads | Spot clean recommended; commercial machine |
| Hush Weighted Duvet | 30 lb | 106 x 92 | Yes, both ways | 100% polyester | Spot clean only |
| Bearaby King | 25 lb | 76 x 80 | No, matches it | Knit cotton, TENCEL blend or recycled polyester / none | Cotton: dry clean; others: commercial washer if needed |
| Baloo at Nest | 25 lb (20 lb in the selector) | 80 x 87 | Slightly, 4 and 7 in | 100% cotton / glass beads | King: commercial machine |
How to choose
- Measure your mattress width and height. For a blanket that reaches down both sides, add twice the height to 76 inches: a 12 inch mattress needs 100 across. Laid long side across, Hush’s 106 and YnM’s 104 (blanket and comforter) clear that; Baloo’s 87 and Bearaby’s 80 do not either way (our arithmetic).
- Decide one blanket or two. YnM’s guide says “To cover your side of the bed only, choose a smaller size and select a pressure based on your weight.” Two people who want different weights can each take their own; one shared king means one weight for both. For couples sharing one, Bearaby’s answer is that the weight “should distribute proportionally based on the amount of the blanket each person is resting beneath”.
- Read the chart’s last rows. YnM’s “Single” column ends at 240 lbs for 25 lbs and its “Couple (lightest person)” column at 140 - 240 lbs for 30 lbs; it assigns no body weight to the 40 or 50 lb blankets.
- Check your washer. Of the five picks, only YnM’s 50 lb page prints a plain cold machine wash (its 40 lb sister page prints the same); the other four point to spot cleaning, dry cleaning or a commercial machine. If there is no laundromat with a large machine near you, that narrows the list.

Before you order
- Check the option line in your cart. YnM’s 50 lb and comforter pages each carry a size guide whose King, 80 x 87, differs from the sizes sold, and Nest’s lists two king weights.
- Size any cover to the blanket, not the mattress. YnM’s blanket has cover loops, and Hush recommends its own cover sets.
- Read the returns page before paying, since a 15 to 50 lb blanket is heavy to send back: YnM, Hush, Bearaby, Nest Bedding.

Where these numbers come from
Weights, sizes, materials, care lines and prices are from each seller’s product page and product data, read on 30 September 2026 (the YnM comforter and Hush prices on 1 October 2026), in US dollars. Overhangs, square inches and the mattress-height sum are our arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a king size weighted blanket?
It depends on the maker. Of the five picks here, the smallest king is Bearaby's at 76 by 80 inches, the same figure its own size guide gives for a king bed, and the largest surface is Hush's weighted duvet at 106 by 92 inches (our arithmetic, 9,752 square inches). YnM's size guide recommends 80 by 87 inches for a 76 by 80 king bed, yet sells its 50 lb blanket at 88 by 104 and 90 by 104 in king-type sizes.
How heavy should a king size weighted blanket be for a heavy person?
Bearaby's guide says "We recommend 10% of your body weight."; the rule is theirs, not ours, and not medical advice. The one chart among the five picks, YnM's, ends at these rows: "Single", 240 lbs for 25 lbs, and "Couple (lightest person)", 140 - 240 lbs for 30 lbs. It assigns no body weight to YnM's 40 or 50 lb blankets.
Is a weighted comforter the same as a weighted blanket?
Not in YnM's own wording. Its blanket size guide says weighted blankets are not meant to hang off the edge, while its weighted comforter listing says it overhangs the bed with true comforter sizing, at 90 by 104 inches in the king. Hush's FAQ answers yes to whether its weighted duvet can replace a regular comforter.
Can you wash a king size weighted blanket at home?
Of the five picks, YnM's 50 lb blanket is the one whose page prints a plain machine wash (cold, gentle) for the whole piece. Bearaby's FAQ says "We don’t recommend washing your king size weighted blanket at home." Nest Bedding says king-size blankets should go in a commercial machine, YnM's comforter says spot clean recommended and commercial machine washable, and Hush says spot clean only.
