Oversized King Bed Sizes: Real Dimensions and Where to Buy

California, Wyoming, Texas and Alaskan king dimensions from the brands' own pages, where their numbers differ, and who sells mattresses, frames and sheets.

You roll over and hit a partner, a child who came in at 3am, or a dog that has claimed the middle, and a king that looked huge in the shop no longer feels like enough bed. A California king will not fix it: it is longer and narrower, not wider. Below are the sizes that really are bigger than a king, with the dimensions each brand prints (and where brands disagree), the catch with frames, sheets, rooms and delivery, and eight picks from five stores, from a Cal king mattress for tall sleepers to Alaskan king frames and sheets.

The quick answer

Size Width x length (inches) Who prints it Where the numbers differ
King (for comparison) 76 x 80 Purple, Nest Bedding Consistent
California king 72 x 84 Purple, Nest Bedding Longer and narrower than a king, not bigger
Colorado king 76 x 92 OCOCHI King width, 12 inches longer
Wyoming king 84 x 84 Purple, Wyoming King Beds, OCOCHI Consistent
Texas king 80 x 98 Mattress Insider, Custom Mattress Factory, OCOCHI Purple prints 80 x 96; Mattress Insider and OCOCHI also sell it turned sideways, 98 x 80
Alberta or Vermont king 96 x 96 Purple (Alberta), OCOCHI (Vermont) OCOCHI’s menu also says “Alberta/Vermont/Alaskan King 8x8ft”; Alaskan King Beds calls it “Alaskan King Mini”
Florida king 108 x 80 OCOCHI Alaskan King Beds sells 108 x 80 as its “Alaskan King Shorty 80”
Short Alaskan king 108 x 84 OCOCHI, Alaskan King Beds OCOCHI: “Alaskan King Short”, “Alaskan King 7ft Length”; Alaskan King Beds: “Alaskan King Shorty 84”
Alaskan king 108 x 108 Purple, Alaskan King Beds, OCOCHI OCOCHI’s own menu also labels 108 x 80, 108 x 84 and 96 x 96 beds “Alaskan King”
Family bed 108–156 wide Purple, OCOCHI, Alaskan King Beds Purple: “108 to 144 inches wide and 80 to 84 inches long”; Alaskan King Beds goes to 156 x 108

Order by inches, never by name: in the table, one name covers four different beds, and one 96 x 96 bed goes by four names.

Which size fixes which problem

Not enough width for two bigger bodies: the Wyoming king adds 8 inches of width and 4 of length over a king. The Texas king adds 4 of width and 18 of length (16 on Purple’s figure), so it suits tall sleepers, unless bought sideways at 98 x 80.

Adults plus a child or pets: Wyoming King Beds pitches its 84 x 84 as fitting “two adults and one child”, and Alaskan King Beds says a 108 x 108 “can hold four grown adults comfortably”. Those are sellers’ claims; measurably, an Alaskan king is a king plus 32 inches of width.

You are tall: a California king adds 4 inches of length and nothing else; the Texas and Colorado kings are the long ones.

The catch: frames, sheets, rooms and delivery

The frame. A king frame will not fit, so budget for a frame in the same inches, from the same seller if you can. Two of the three frames below print no weight rating; how to read a rating, and what mattress warranties ask of a frame, is in heavy duty bed frame, and the centre-support rules that start at queen are in sturdy queen bed frame.

Sheets. A king fitted sheet is cut for 76 x 80 inches, so each size above needs its own bedding; check pocket depth too. OCOCHI’s microfiber fitted sheet has a 16-inch pocket; Wyoming King Beds sells its cotton sheets by pocket depth and labels the 17-inch one “Recommended for Grand Royale”.

The room. Purple’s advice is to “Leave at least two feet of space around the mattress”. By our arithmetic that means about 11 by 11 feet for a Wyoming king and 13 by 13 feet for an Alaskan king. Mattress Insider goes further for a Texas king: “We recommend a room size of at least 16′ x 16′ for a comfortable fit.” Frames can be larger than the mattress: OCOCHI’s Texas king platform is 85 x 101 inches.

Getting it through the door. The Grand Royale listings at Alaskan King Beds and Wyoming King Beds say the mattress arrives “in one piece” and “folded in half”; Wyoming King Beds’ FAQ says its mattresses ship “rolled in a smaller box”; Mattress Insider’s modular Texas king comes as two base pieces, 40 x 98 inches each. Ask how yours arrives.

Returns. Mattress Insider’s page says its oversized mattresses “are not eligible for returns”, and OCOCHI’s platform listing says “All Sonoma Wooden Platform orders are final sale.”

Drawbacks: it is 4 inches narrower than a king, so it will not help if you are short of width, and the listing aims its Plush feel partly at lighter sleepers under 140 pounds.

Wyoming King Beds The Grand Royale

$7,500 Price for reference only · Wyoming king, 84” x 84” · View it on the brand’s site →

A two-sided Wyoming king with a firm side and a medium side, 84 x 84 x 15 inches, with free white-glove delivery and setup. The step up in width for two bigger adults who want one surface.

Drawbacks: it is the most expensive of the store’s three mattresses: the store’s Original is $2,100 and its Royale $2,600, both read on 1 October 2026; bedding in this size means specialty sheets such as the store’s cotton set at $260 to $275.

Alaskan King Beds The Platform Bed

OCOCHI Wooden Platform Bed Frame

$2,700 to $3,900 Price for reference only · 14 sizes, Queen to Two King Beds (152x80), including Wyoming, Texas (both ways), Florida, Vermont and Alaskan · View it on the brand’s site →

Solid Ambrosia Maple with a “Reinforced slatted support system”, no box spring needed, and a printed weight capacity of 1000 lbs, the one frame of the three here whose listing prints a rating. In honey or ebony: $2,800 Wyoming king, $2,900 Texas king (80×98), $3,100 Texas king (98×80), $3,500 Alaskan king (108×108); cherry is listed at $2,700 in every size. The pick for a Texas or Colorado king mattress bought elsewhere.

Drawbacks: orders are final sale; the platform is larger than the mattress (111 x 111 inches for an Alaskan king); and 2½ inches of clearance under the bed is, by our reading, too low for storage boxes.

OCOCHI Oversized Signature Brushed Microfiber Sheet Set

$120 to $150 Price for reference only · 9 sizes, Wyoming King (84x84”) to Two King Beds Pushed Together (152x80”) · View it on the brand’s site →

A fitted sheet, a flat sheet and four king pillowcases in 100% brushed microfiber (110gsm), with a 16-inch deep pocket. $120 for Wyoming king, $130 for Texas king (80 x 98), $140 for Alaskan king, well under the Wyoming King Beds cotton set above.

Drawbacks: the Texas king option on this listing is the 80-wide version only (OCOCHI sells 98 x 80 bedding separately), and black was out of stock in Wyoming and Texas king on 28 September 2026.

Custom Mattress Factory The Original Texas King

$2,200 Price for reference only · Texas king, 80 x 98 x 11 · View it on the brand’s site →

An 11-inch mattress in the 80 x 98 size, with a 2-inch Hypercool™ layer and a quilted organic cotton cover, handcrafted in America. The listing says it “will fit through a standard doorway”.

Drawbacks: “Bed frames are sold separately”, and it is 80 x 98, the longer of the two Texas king figures, so if you already own Texas king bedding, check which length it was cut for.

How to choose

  • Short of width: Wyoming king (84 wide) first; Alaskan king (108 wide) if a child or dogs sleep with you and the room is at least about 13 feet square.
  • Short of length: Texas king (98 long) or Colorado king (92 long); a Cal king only adds 4 inches.
  • Two beds already: OCOCHI sells its platform and sheets in a two-kings-together size (152 x 80), so you can keep both mattresses.

Before you order

  • Measure the room, the door and the stairs against the frame’s overall size, not the mattress size.
  • Order frame, mattress and sheets in the same inches, and read each returns page first.

Where these numbers come from

Dimensions, prices, sizes and quoted phrases are copied from each brand’s product pages, product data and size pages, read on 28 September 2026 (the Custom Mattress Factory, Wyoming Original and Royale, and Alaskan Original and Royale prices on 1 October 2026), in US dollars. Floor space, width differences and square inches are our own arithmetic from those figures.

Frequently asked questions

What bed size is bigger than a king?

A standard king is 76 by 80 inches. Wider or longer sizes sold today include the Wyoming king at 84 by 84, the Texas king at 80 by 98 (Purple's size page gives 80 by 96), the Alberta or Vermont king at 96 by 96, and the Alaskan king at 108 by 108. Family beds run wider still, up to 156 by 108 inches at Alaskan King Beds.

Is a California king bigger than a king?

Longer, not bigger. A California king is 72 by 84 inches against a king's 76 by 80, so it gains 4 inches of length and loses 4 of width, and by our arithmetic its surface is slightly smaller, 6,048 square inches against 6,080. If the problem is width, a Cal king makes it worse.

How big does a room need to be for an Alaskan king?

Purple's size page says to leave at least two feet of space around a mattress, which by our arithmetic puts a 108 by 108-inch Alaskan king in a room of at least 13 by 13 feet. The frame can add to that: OCOCHI's wooden platform for this size measures 111 by 111 inches overall.

Can I use regular king sheets on an oversized king?

Not on the sizes above: a king fitted sheet is cut for a 76 by 80-inch mattress. Buy sheets sold for your exact size and check the pocket depth against your mattress height. OCOCHI, Wyoming King Beds and Alaskan King Beds all sell sheets by oversized size.
