Plus Size Church Dresses: 5 Midi and Maxi Picks With Sleeves
Five plus size church dresses with sleeves, midi to maxi: sizes each brand sells, length in inches where listed, fabric, lining, care and one drawback each.

Sunday is in two days, you want a dress that covers your arms and falls well past your knees, and the ones that do stop a size or two short of yours. Going by the word midi or maxi on a listing doesn’t settle the length: the five dresses below are sold as one or the other, and the lengths their listings and product data give run from 45.7 to about 56½ inches. Each one comes with sleeves, the sizes its brand sells, the bust, waist and hip of its largest size, and what it is made of.
The short answer

What to check on a listing before Sunday
Four things decide whether a dress works for you on a Sunday morning, and each one is given, or not, on the listing or in its product data.
- Length, and where it is measured from. Kiyonna gives the Kelsey’s length “HPS to Hem”, HPS being the usual shorthand for the high point of the shoulder (our gloss). Karen Kane and Ashley Stewart print a length without saying where it starts; BloomChic’s product data gives a garment length for each size; Universal Standard prints no length in inches. Measure a dress you already wear from the shoulder seam next to the neckline to the hem and compare.
- Sleeves. Read what the listing calls them: long, cuffed, balloon, puff, split. A split sleeve has an opening along the arm (our gloss).
- Neckline. Three of the five picks are V-necks. BloomChic’s product data tags its dress Round Neck, and the Ashley Stewart listing does not name its neckline.
- Lining. One of the five picks lists a lining. If you want one under a light fabric, plan a slip.
Take your bust, waist and hip before you read any chart; how to measure your bust shows where the tape goes.

The five picks
Universal Standard Better-Than-Wool Faux Wrap Dress
Start here if your bust is over 66 inches, past the largest row on the other four picks’ charts (our arithmetic). It is sold from 00-0 to 38-40, and Universal Standard’s size chart puts size 40 at a 75 to 78-inch bust, 70 to 74-inch natural waist and 80 to 84-inch hip, body measurements in inches; the same chart lines 34 to 40 up with a conventional 6X and 7X. The listing describes a ribbed midi in its Better-Than-Wool yarn that “skims the body before easing into a softly flared hem”, with full balloon sleeves, and says the faux wrap V-neck “stays closed and won’t gape”. It is machine wash cold, inside out, hang dry. Black, graphite and cognac are listed separately at the same price; on the black listing, the model line reads 5’8” / 5’8.5” wearing 2XS_6-8 (on the cognac listing, M_18-20).
Drawbacks: At $288 it is the most expensive of the five picks, and the listing gives no length in inches, only midi. It is a V-neck, the page gives no lining line, and the listing calls it warm enough for cold days, so it suits the cooler months (our reading).
Kiyonna Kelsey Long Sleeve Maxi Dress
The longest of the four picks that give a length: approx. 56½ inches from HPS to hem on a 1X, in a stretch jersey with an empire waist, an A-line skirt and long cuffed sleeves. It comes in five colours, Black Noir, Hunter Green, Nouveau Navy, Plum Passion and Green Floral Print, and is machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, lay flat to dry. On Kiyonna’s size chart, 5X is a 61 to 66-inch bust, 55.5 to 60.5-inch waist and 66.5 to 71.5-inch hip. The listing calls it suitable for semi-formal occasions.
Drawbacks: It has side slits and a V-neck, and the answer in the listing's questions section says it is not lined. The page names the fabric two ways: 92% polyester, 8% spandex in the details, and a rayon spandex fabric in a question-and-answer reply.
Ashley Stewart Floral Split Sleeve A Line Dress
The pick if you want a print and pockets. It is a floral textured-knit dress with split sleeves finished in elasticized cuffs, an A-line skirt, two slit pockets at the sides and button fastenings at a keyhole back, 49 inches long. Ashley Stewart’s apparel size guide for tops and dresses gives 34/36 as a 61.5 to 63.5-inch bust, 53 to 55-inch waist and 64 to 66-inch hip. It is machine wash cold, dry flat. The model is 5’11” in a 14/16.
Drawbacks: The sleeves are split, and the photos show the opening along the arm (our reading). It comes in one print, Potters Clay; the listing calls it a maxi at 49 inches without saying where that is measured from, and gives no lining line.
BloomChic Ditsy Floral Long Sleeve Chiffon Midi Dress
The one pick that lists a lining, and the lowest price of the five. BloomChic’s product data gives a polyester chiffon shell over a 100% polyester lining, long puff sleeves, a button closure, a hidden pocket (product data) and a fit-and-flare midi shape, tagged Round Neck. Its garment chart runs from 45.7 inches long at M to 51.2 inches at 5X and 6X, and its body chart puts 30/6X at a 61.8 to 65.7-inch bust, 55.9 to 59.8-inch waist and 65.7 to 70.1-inch hip. It is machine wash cold on a gentle cycle; the model is 5’6” in a 12/L.
Drawbacks: In the product photos the chiffon sleeves look see-through (our reading), and the product data does not say whether the lining reaches them. Black Flower is the only colour.
Karen Kane Plus Size Kate V-Neck Midi Travel Jersey Dress
The pick for a dress that travels in a bag, since the listing calls it wrinkle-resistant. The listing describes a pull-on travel jersey midi with long set-in sleeves and a “Subtle flare through the skirt”, and gives 46 inches long on a 2X. It is made in the USA of imported fabric. The plus chart on the page puts 3X at a 51-inch bust, 43-inch waist and 53-inch hip, with the hip taken 8 inches below the waist. Care is hand wash cold, hang to dry, or dry clean.
Drawbacks: The plus run stops at 3X, a 51-inch bust on Karen Kane's chart. It is a V-neck, navy only on this listing, the page gives no lining line, and care is hand wash cold or dry clean.

| Karen Kane Kate | 0X to 3X | 51 / 43 / 53 | 92% polyester, 8% spandex | 46 in (2X) | Long, set-in | V-neck | Not stated | $128 |
“Not stated” means the product page gives no lining line. BloomChic’s figures are from its product data for the listing.
How to choose
- By your bust and hip in inches. Over a 51-inch bust, the Karen Kane Kate no longer reaches you; over 63.5, the Ashley Stewart dress drops out; over 65.7, the BloomChic; over 66, the Kiyonna. Past that, the Universal Standard dress runs to a 78-inch bust (our arithmetic on the charts above). By hip, the largest rows end at 53 inches (Karen Kane), 66 (Ashley Stewart), 70.1 (BloomChic, product data), 71.5 (Kiyonna) and 84 (Universal Standard) (our arithmetic). If your measurements fall between two rows, how to find your dress size walks through which number to follow.
- By your height and the hem you want. Hold a tape from the shoulder seam next to the neckline to where you want the hem, then compare. The Kelsey’s 56½ inches is the longest figure given for the five picks; of the three picks that print one figure, the Karen Kane’s 46 inches on a 2X is the shortest. The models are 5’11” in a 14/16 (Ashley Stewart), 5’6” in a 12/L (BloomChic), and, on Universal Standard’s black listing, 5’8” / 5’8.5” in a 2XS_6-8.
- By arm coverage. For a closed sleeve, the Kelsey, the Universal Standard dress or the Karen Kane (our reading: the word split or sheer appears on none of those three listings); for a fabric sleeve you can see through, the BloomChic (our reading of its photos); the Ashley Stewart’s sleeves are split.
- By care. Four of the five picks list machine washing; the Karen Kane says hand wash or dry clean.

Before you order
- Read the row, not the label. Kiyonna’s 5X (30-32) is a 61 to 66-inch bust; Universal Standard’s 30 and 32 rows are 62 to 65 and 66 to 69 inches. Check your own numbers against each brand’s chart.
- Check where the hip is measured. Karen Kane’s chart says to take it 8 inches below the waist; measure yours the same way before reading its hip row.
- Check the price for your size in the cart. The prices above are without any promo code and are a reference only.
- Read each store’s returns page before you buy, and try the dress with the shoes and any layer you plan to wear over it.
If the service is followed by a wedding or a dressier event, the picks in plus size semi formal dresses do not repeat any of these five.
Where these numbers come from
Prices, sizes, fabrics, lengths, lining and care are copied from each brand’s product page and product data, and body measurements from each brand’s size chart, read on 2 October 2026 in US dollars. Comparisons between charts and lengths are our arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a plus size church dress be?
This guide sets no rule; it gives you the numbers to check. Of the five picks, four give a length: about 56½ inches HPS to hem on a Kiyonna Kelsey 1X, 49 inches on the Ashley Stewart dress, 46 inches on a Karen Kane Kate 2X, and 45.7 to 51.2 inches by size in BloomChic's product data. Universal Standard's listing gives no length in inches. Only Kiyonna says where its figure starts (HPS to hem); the others do not. Compare them with a dress you already own, measured from the shoulder seam next to the neckline.
Which of these church dresses come in the largest sizes?
Of the five picks, Universal Standard's faux wrap dress runs to 38-40 (4XL), and its chart gives size 40 as a 75 to 78-inch bust. Then Kiyonna's 5X (30-32) at a 61 to 66-inch bust, BloomChic's 30/6X at 61.8 to 65.7 inches, and Ashley Stewart's 34/36 at 61.5 to 63.5 inches. Karen Kane's Kate stops at 3X, a 51-inch bust.
Are any of these dresses lined?
Of the five picks, only BloomChic's product data lists a lining, 100% polyester, without saying whether it reaches the chiffon sleeves. Kiyonna says the Kelsey is not lined, and the Universal Standard, Ashley Stewart and Karen Kane product pages give no lining line.
Can I machine wash these church dresses?
Four of the five picks list machine washing: the Kiyonna Kelsey, the Universal Standard faux wrap dress, the Ashley Stewart dress and the BloomChic dress. Karen Kane's Kate says hand wash cold, hang to dry or dry clean.
