You are packing one bag for a week of sand in the morning, cobblestones in the afternoon and a restaurant at night, and the dress you like online stops at a 2X, or its listing leaves out what it is made of. Sizing up in a swimsuit or a dress you cannot measure leaves straps sliding and hems landing wherever they like. Below are six pieces, two for each part of the trip, each with the sizes its brand sells, the largest size on the brand’s chart in inches, the fabric, the length and how you wash it.

How the sizes compare
The three brands label plus sizes differently, so check your measurements against each chart rather than the letter. BloomChic sells 10/M to 30/6X, and the body size chart on each of its listings puts 30/6X at a 61.8 to 65.7-inch bust, 55.9 to 59.8-inch waist and 65.7 to 70.1-inch hips. Kiyonna’s dresses run 0X (10-12) to 5X (30-32), and its size chart puts 5X at a 61 to 66-inch bust, 55.5 to 60.5-inch waist and 66.5 to 71.5-inch hips. Girlfriend Collective’s bottoms chart runs XXS to 6XL, with 6XL at a 49½ to 53-inch waist and a 60½ to 64-inch hip; it gives no bust, since it covers bottoms. Beach: a swimsuit and a cover-up
BloomChic Floral Bird Print Pocket One Piece Swimsuit
The swimsuit to start with if you want one suit for the whole trip. BloomChic files it under the swimsuit type Swim Romper and lists a chest pad, adjustable straps, a side pocket and chlorine-resistant fabric, with a 95% polyester, 5% spandex lining. Its product size table gives the length as 38.2 inches at 10/M and 46.1 at 30/6X, a figure you can hold against a one-piece you already own; the size table does not say where that length is measured from, so treat it as a guide. The editor’s note calls it “ready for chlorine, sun, and saltwater”. The model is 5’6” and wears 12/L. Care is machine wash cold on a gentle cycle.
Drawbacks: The listing gives two shell blends without saying which part of the suit is which, and it comes in one print, Black Flower. The care line says do not tumble dry.
BloomChic Breathable Ruffle Trim Long Cover Up
A long cover-up with a tie closure, in Beige with ruffles. The product size table measures it at 48.8 inches long at 10/M, rising to 53.5 at 28/5X and 30/6X, with a sleeve of 18.1 inches at 10/M and 23.2 at 30/6X. The garment bust measures 78.7 inches at 30/6X, against a 61.8 to 65.7-inch body bust for that size, so it is cut with plenty of room (our comparison of the two tables). The model is 5’9” and wears 12/L. Care is machine wash cold, gentle cycle, iron on low.
Drawbacks: It is 100% polyester, not cotton or linen, and has no pockets. The product size table lists the same 53.5-inch length for 28/5X and 30/6X.
Sightseeing: a set and shorts you can walk in
BloomChic Pure Cotton Striped Petal Hem Two-Piece Set
One purchase that makes a whole sightseeing outfit: a striped top and matching bottoms, both 100% cotton, with a shirt collar, raglan cap sleeves and side seam pockets; the listing’s details read “Tie knot, Overlapping, Button”. The closure is pull-on, and the product size table gives a waist of 50.4 to 68.5 inches at 30/6X. The top measures 33.9 inches long at 10/M and 38.6 at 28/5X and 30/6X; the bottoms 40.6 to 42.9 inches. The garment bust is 72.8 inches at 30/6X, about 7 inches more than the top of that size’s body bust, so expect a loose top (our arithmetic). The model is 5’7” and wears 14-16/1X. Care is machine wash cold, gentle cycle.
Drawbacks: The listing says no stretch, so go by the garment measurements rather than sizing down. It comes in one colour, Medium Blue, and the bottoms are listed as full length, so for the hottest days pair the top with the shorts below.
Girlfriend Collective Black High-Rise Bike Short
The pick for a day on your feet. The listing describes a high-rise short with an 8.5-inch inseam, “Ride up-resistant”, “Sweat-wicking and sheer-proof”, with a small hidden back pocket for keys or cards. The rise is 10.25 inches at S and 12.25 at XXL. The fabric is 79% recycled water bottles (RPET) and 21% spandex; care is wash cold and dry flat. The model is 5’8”, a size 8, and wears M. Drawbacks: The listing says they are designed for high-impact workouts, and the page's FAQ says its leggings, especially the compressive collection, feel snug and tight on first wear. The chart ends at a 64-inch hip at 6XL, and the care line warns that colours may bleed at first.
Dinner out: two maxi dresses
Kiyonna Vienna Maxi Dress
The dress for a dinner where you want sleeves. Kiyonna describes a stretch jersey maxi with an empire waist, V-neck, A-line skirt and side slits. At 1X it measures approximately 57 inches from the high point of the shoulder to the hem, with a waistband of about 39 inches around, relaxed, and short sleeves about 6¼ inches long. It comes in solids and prints, and Kiyonna says the Redwood colour “features pockets”. Kiyonna also pitches it for a semi-formal event or as a wedding guest dress.
Drawbacks: Hand wash cold and lay flat to dry. The only length printed is for 1X, and the listing mentions pockets for the Redwood colour alone.
Kiyonna Daniela Sleeveless Maxi Dress
The warmer-night option. The Daniela has a surplice neckline, a ruched waistband and a full-length skirt with side slits, and Kiyonna pitches it for “summer days and vacation escapes”. It measures 56 inches from the highest point to the hem at 0X, in 95% polyester and 5% spandex. Unlike the Vienna, it can go in the machine: cold, gentle cycle, inside out, then lay flat to dry. Drawbacks: It is sleeveless, so bring a layer if the restaurant is air-conditioned, and the only length printed is for 0X. Two colours: Black Noir and Teal Palm Print.

How to choose
- Start from your hip measurement. Above 64 inches, the bike short is past the top of Girlfriend Collective’s chart; BloomChic’s 30/6X goes to 70.1 and Kiyonna’s 5X to 71.5. Above 71.5, you are past all three brands’ charts.
- Check your bust for the dresses. Kiyonna’s 5X tops out at a 66-inch bust and BloomChic’s 30/6X at 65.7.
- Measure from shoulder to where you want the hem. Compare that with the 57 inches of the Vienna at 1X, the 56 of the Daniela at 0X, or the 48.8 to 53.5 of the cover-up, and expect the Kiyonna figures to change in other sizes. BloomChic’s size tables do not say where their lengths are measured from, so treat them as a guide.
- Decide whether you want sleeves at dinner. Of the two dresses, the Vienna has sleeves, short ones about 6¼ inches long at 1X; the Daniela is sleeveless.
- Decide on washing. If you will be washing in a hotel sink, the Vienna is hand wash only; the others list a cold machine wash or a cold wash.
Before you pack
- Order early enough to try everything on at home with the tags on, and sit, walk and climb stairs in the set and the shorts.
- Measure, do not convert. BloomChic pairs letters with numbers (22-24/3X), Kiyonna does too (3X is 22-24), and Girlfriend Collective uses letters only. The same letter is not the same body: BloomChic’s 22-24/3X is a 50 to 53.9-inch bust, Kiyonna’s 3X a 52.5 to 56-inch bust.
