The product table measures it 38.2 inches long at 10/M and 43.7 at 28/5X and 30/6X; at 22-24/3X it is 41.3 inches. Drawbacks: From 4X up, the waist on its product table is under the body chart's waist range: 47.6 inches against 48–52 at 26/4X, and 54.7 against 55.9–59.8 at 30/6X; the garment bust is 0.7 to 0.8 inch under the top of each body bust range from 1X up (our arithmetic). Girlfriend Collective Black High-Rise Bike Short
Under the mini dress, or with the sequin blouse on its own. Girlfriend Collective describes these as compressive, high-rise bike shorts with an 8.5-inch inseam, “Ride up-resistant”, with a small hidden back pocket for keys or cards, sweat-wicking and sheer-proof fabric, and four-way stretch. The brand says it “Fits true to you” and suggests your normal size; between sizes, it suggests sizing down for a more compressive fit and up for a more relaxed one. Besides Black, the page shows seven other colours, from Terrace to Rain. The model is 5’8”, a size 8, and wears a M.
Drawbacks: Its chart stops at a 64-inch hip in the 6XL, while BloomChic's 30/6X runs to a 70.1-inch hip, so it does not reach the top of the dress's size range (our comparison of the two charts). The page says colours may bleed at first, so wash it cold with like colours and dry it flat.
For a country concert
BloomChic Stretchy Western Cowboy Print T-Shirt
The lowest-priced piece of the six, and the easiest to wear with the jeans and booties below. It is a tan tee with a western cowboy graphic and short dolman sleeves, in 100% cotton. Drawbacks: The name says stretchy, but the fabric is listed as 100% cotton, and from 1X up its garment bust is 1.9 to 2 inches under the top of each size's body bust range (our arithmetic); if you are near the top of a range, take the next size (our suggestion). It comes in one colour, Tan.
BloomChic Stretch Denim Front Embroided Pockets Flare Jeans
Flare legs to go over the booties. These are dark indigo flare jeans with embroidered, slanted front pockets and a zip and button. At every one of the 11 sizes, the product table’s waist and hip are smaller than the body chart’s lower end (at 30/6X, a 54.7-inch garment waist against a 55.9 to 59.8-inch body waist; our comparison), and the listing rates the denim medium stretch, with 2% spandex. So pick your size from the body chart rather than the garment numbers (our suggestion). Care is machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. The model is 5’9” and wears 12/L.
Drawbacks: One length only: the inseam is 29.9 inches in sizes 10 to 26, 29.1 in a 28 and 28.7 in a 30, and the listing offers just the Regular sizing type, so if you are tall, check that number against a pair you own. One wash, Dark Indigo.
Journee Taliah Western Ankle Booties in Wide
A western boot with a 1½-inch Cuban heel. Journee sells the Taliah in a wide width: a pull-on ankle bootie in smooth vegan leather with stitching details, a 1½-inch Cuban heel and a 4 mm Journee Comfort System insole. With a 4-inch shaft and a 10-inch top at a size 6, it ends at the ankle, so calf size does not come into it (our reading). Besides the Tan linked here, the wide version is sold in Vintage Brown, Pewter, Leopard, Bone and Black, each on its own listing at the same price.
Drawbacks: A pointed toe, and no half sizes above a 10: the listing goes 10, 11, 12. The shaft and top figures were taken on a size 6, and Journee says measurements may vary slightly by size.
How to choose
- By the show. For a pop or arena night, pair the sequin blouse with jeans or shorts you already own, or wear the mini dress with the bike short under it. For a country show, the tee, the flare jeans and the booties make one outfit. The pieces mix: the sequin blouse works with the flare jeans too.
- By your hip. From a 42.1 to a 64-inch hip, all five clothing pieces are charted for you. From 64 to 70.1 inches, the four BloomChic pieces still are (up to 30/6X), but the bike short is not. Above a 65.7-inch bust or a 70.1-inch hip, none of these charts reach.
- Between two BloomChic sizes. The sequin blouse, the mini dress and the cowboy tee are cut close to the body chart: from 1X up, the blouse’s garment bust is 0.4 inch over the top of each body range, the dress’s 0.7 to 0.8 inch under it and the tee’s 1.9 to 2 inches under it (our arithmetic). So for these three, the larger size is the safer pick (our suggestion). The jeans are different: the listing rates them medium stretch, while the tee is listed as 100% cotton, so go by the jeans’ body chart (our suggestion).
