Oversized King Quilts: Real Sizes in Inches, Six Picks
Oversized king quilts sized in inches: six picks with printed sizes and prices, the drop each gives on a king, and a formula for your own mattress depth.

You pull the quilt up at 2am and one side of you is out in the air, because your partner has half of it and the other half never made it past the edge of a deep mattress. Buying by the label does not fix it: one maker’s Mills Waffle quilt is 106 by 92 inches in King/Cal King and its Mills Waffle bedspread is 122 by 106, and “oversized” on a label is not a measurement. Below is how to work out the width and length you need from your own bed, and four quilts, a bedspread and a comforter whose pages print their inches.
The short answer
| Pick | Best for | Price (reference) | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lush Decor Ava Diamond Oversized Cotton Quilt Set | A wide cotton quilt at $110 | $110 | King 110 in wide, California King 120 in wide, both 92 high |
| Southshore Fine Linens Vilano Oversized Quilt Set | A microfiber quilt with length | $89.99 | 108 in wide × 98 in long |
| WDCOZY 100% Cotton Stripe Quilt | The lowest price of the six picks | $71.99 King, $81.99 California King | King 106 × 96, California King 118 × 106 |
| Donna Sharp Blue Pastures Cotton Quilt Collection | A patchwork cotton quilt | $205 King, $236 King (Cal) | King 110 × 90, King (Cal) 105 × 118 |
| Levtex Home Mills Waffle Bedspread Set | Sides that reach toward the floor | $195 | 122 × 106; 122 wide on our reading, the most of the six picks |
| OCOCHI Bamboo Down Alternative Comforter | A filled comforter instead of a quilt | $300 | King/Cal King 110 × 98 |
How much bigger “oversized” is
Start with what a standard king quilt measures. Nectar’s quilt size chart puts a king quilt at 108 by 95 inches for a 76 by 80-inch mattress. Levtex sells its Mills Waffle design two ways: the quilt is 106 by 92 in King/Cal King, and the bedspread is 122 by 106. That is 16 inches more on the first figure, which we read as the width: 8 more per side (our reading and arithmetic).
The word on the label does not settle it. Lush Decor and Southshore call their quilts oversized; WDCOZY’s King is 106 wide on our reading of its table, the same as Levtex’s quilt. Compare width against width.
Comforters run on their own scale: Nectar’s comforter size guide calls a king comforter 102 inches wide and an oversized king 120.
Quilt, comforter, duvet cover or bedspread
A quilt is three thin layers, a top, a filling and a back; a comforter is thicker and filled; a duvet cover is an empty case that goes over an insert, so it is sized to the insert rather than to the bed. Levtex’s bedspread is the long one of its pair, 106 on the second figure against 92 for its quilt (our reading), and its Mills Waffle bedspread page says its “Oversized silhouette creates an elegant drape to the floor.” This guide is mostly quilts, with one bedspread for maximum width and one filled comforter.
Work out the size you need
This is our method, not a maker’s. Measure three things: mattress width, mattress depth including any topper, and how far below the mattress edge you want the quilt to hang.
- Width = mattress width + 2 × (mattress depth + extra drop).
- Length = mattress length + mattress depth + extra drop, plus whatever you tuck under the pillows.
A 76 by 80-inch king with a 14-inch mattress and 3 inches spare needs 76 + 2 × 17 = 110 inches of width and 80 + 17 = 97 of length (our arithmetic). A 16-inch mattress with the same 3 inches needs 114 wide. If two of you share it, go wider: by our reading, any pull toward one side comes out of the other side’s drop. If you are not sure of your mattress size, our oversized king bed guide lists king, California king and the larger sizes in inches.

Six picks, by type
Side and foot drops below assume a 76 by 80-inch king with the quilt centred and pulled up to the headboard (our arithmetic). Where a page does not label width and length, we read the first figure as the width, because it is the figure that grows from Queen to King on that same page, and a king mattress is wider than a queen, not longer. For California King rows that test cannot tell; there we only carry the same order over.
Quilts
Lush Decor Ava Diamond Oversized Cotton Quilt Set
If you want one cotton quilt, start here. It is one of two pages of the six that label which way each figure runs (H and W here), so you know the 110 is the width: 17 inches a side on a king. The California King is labelled 120 wide at the same price, 22 a side on a king bed (our arithmetic), if you want more width and can live with the same length. The cover is 100% cotton with a 55% cotton, 45% polyester fill.
Drawbacks: Both sizes are 92 inches high, which leaves 12 at the foot of a king and 8 at the foot of an 84-inch California king (our arithmetic). The care instructions call for a front-load commercial grade washer and dryer.
Southshore Fine Linens Vilano Oversized Quilt Set
The longest King size of the four quilts: 98 inches long leaves 18 at the foot of a king (our arithmetic), and the page prints both figures as wide and long. The listing calls it “a generously sized and lightweight quilt”. It is double brushed microfiber with polyester fill, sold as one size for King and California King, with rounded corners.
Drawbacks: Microfiber and polyester rather than cotton, and at 108 wide it gives 16 inches a side, one less than the 110-inch quilts (our arithmetic).
WDCOZY 100% Cotton Stripe Quilt
The lowest price of the six picks: $71.99 for the King, printed 10696, which on our reading gives 15 inches a side and 16 at the foot of a king (our arithmetic). The California King, printed 118106, is $81.99; if 118 is the width it would give 21 a side on a king bed (our arithmetic), so ask the seller to confirm that before buying it for the extra width. The quilt is cotton, OEKO-TEX certified in the brand’s description, and machine washable.
Drawbacks: At 106 on our reading, the King is no wider than Levtex's Mills Waffle King/Cal King quilt. The page prints its sizes as 106*96 and 118*106 without saying which figure is the width.
Donna Sharp Blue Pastures Cotton Quilt Collection
For a traditional patchwork look. The King is 110 wide, 17 inches a side, and the King (Cal) is listed at 105 by 118, which on our reading is 118 long: 34 inches past the foot of an 84-inch California king (our arithmetic). The cover is 100% cotton, the fill 50% cotton and 50% polyester, and it reverses to a blue floral.
Drawbacks: The King is 90 inches long, the shortest King length of the six picks: 10 inches at the foot (our arithmetic). The price is the highest of the four quilts, and it comes in one patchwork design.
A bedspread
Levtex Home Mills Waffle Bedspread Set
For the most width: 122 inches, which we read as the width, is the most of the six picks, 23 inches a side on a king and 26 at the foot (our arithmetic). That covers a 16-inch mattress with 7 inches to spare. The front is 100% cotton waffle weave, and it is machine washable.
Drawbacks: One 122 by 106 size covers both King and Cal King, and the back is brushed microfiber on some colours and cotton on others, listed colour by colour on the page.
A comforter
OCOCHI Bamboo Down Alternative Comforter
If you want a filled comforter rather than a thin quilt. At 110 by 98 it gives 17 inches a side and 18 at the foot (our arithmetic). The shell is 100% bamboo lyocell over microfiber, and the page says it needs no duvet cover, with four corner loops if you want one; OCOCHI’s size chart gives its King duvet cover the same 110 by 98.
Drawbacks: The most expensive of the six picks, and King and Cal King share one 110 by 98 size, so it gives no extra width for a California king.
Side by side
| Pick | Type | King size (in) | Side drop on a king | Foot drop on a king | California King size (in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lush Decor Ava | Quilt | 92 H × 110 W | 17 | 12 | 92 H × 120 W |
| Southshore Vilano | Quilt | 108 wide × 98 long | 16 | 18 | Same: sold as King / California King |
| WDCOZY Stripe | Quilt | 106 × 96 | 15 | 16 | 118 × 106 |
| Donna Sharp Blue Pastures | Quilt | 110 × 90 | 17 | 10 | 105 × 118 |
| Levtex Mills Waffle | Bedspread | 122 × 106 | 23 | 26 | Same: sold as King/Cal King |
| OCOCHI Bamboo | Comforter | 110 × 98 | 17 | 18 | Same: sold as King/Cal King |
Drops are our arithmetic from the printed sizes, reading the first figure as the width where the page does not label it: on King rows because that figure grows from Queen to King, and on California King rows only by carrying the same order over.
How to choose
- Your width from the formula is 110 or less: any of the 110-inch picks, Lush Decor for cotton at the lowest 110-inch price, Donna Sharp for patchwork, OCOCHI for a comforter.
- You need 114 or more: the Levtex bedspread at 122 on our reading, or Lush Decor’s California King, labelled 120 wide. WDCOZY’s California King is printed 118*106; ask the seller which figure is the width before counting on it.
- Your feet end up uncovered: look at the second figure. In King size, the Levtex bedspread, Southshore and OCOCHI run 98 inches or more; Donna Sharp’s King is 90.
- Your budget is under $100: WDCOZY at $71.99 or $81.99, or Southshore at $89.99.

Before you order
- Measure floor to mattress top if you want the sides to reach the floor, and check it against the side drop. The frame changes that number; if you are replacing it too, our heavy duty bed frame guide compares printed weight ratings.
- Check which figure is the width where the page only prints two numbers, before you buy a California King size to use on a king bed.
- Match a duvet cover to the insert, not to the bed, and read the seller’s return terms before you order.
The rest of our bedroom guides are in home and bedroom.
Where these numbers come from
Sizes, materials and prices are from each brand’s product page and product data, and the standard sizes from Nectar’s quilt and comforter size guides, all read on 30 September 2026. Side drops, foot drops and the width formula are our arithmetic, and where a page does not label width and length we read the first figure as the width, because it grows from Queen to King; for California King sizes we only carry that order over.
Frequently asked questions
What size is an oversized king quilt?
There is no single figure. The King options of the six picks run 106 to 122 inches wide and 90 to 106 long; only Lush Decor and Southshore say which figure is the width, and on the other four we read the first figure as the width. Compare 106 by 92 for Levtex's Mills Waffle King/Cal King quilt and 108 by 95 for a king on Nectar's quilt size chart. Order by the inches, not by the word oversized: WDCOZY's King stripe quilt is 106 wide on our reading of its table, the same as that Levtex quilt.
What size quilt do I need for a thick king mattress?
Our reading: mattress width plus twice the drop you want, where the drop is the mattress depth plus however far below it you want the edge. On a 76-inch king with a 14-inch mattress and 3 inches spare, that is 76 + 2 × 17 = 110 inches wide (our arithmetic). Three of the six picks print 110 in their King size, and the Levtex bedspread prints 122.
What is the difference between a quilt, a comforter and a duvet cover?
A quilt is three thin layers, a top, a filling and a back; a comforter is thicker and filled; a duvet cover is an empty case that goes over an insert. Size a duvet cover to the insert, not to the bed: OCOCHI's size chart gives its King duvet cover and King duvet insert the same 110 by 98 inches.
Can I put a California king quilt on a king bed?
Check the width first. Lush Decor's Ava California King quilt is labelled 120 inches wide by 92 high, which on a 76-inch king leaves 22 inches a side and 12 at the foot (our arithmetic). Where a page does not say which figure is the width, as on WDCOZY's and Donna Sharp's California King sizes, ask before ordering.
