Going by the word capri is how that happens, because the word does not fix a length: on the five listings below the inseam runs from 18 inches to 23, a five-inch spread (our arithmetic). So each pair here comes with the inseam, rise and size range its brand prints, plus who it suits and what is wrong with it: measure a pair you like, then match the number.

Capri is a length range, so compare inseams
The inseam is measured from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem. Here is what each of the five prints, with the rise and the leg opening where the listing gives them.

Two things the table shows. The three NYDJ pairs print a full set of measurements but take them on one size, a 16W, so read them as a 16W’s numbers, not necessarily yours. And the two 23-inch pairs are not the same shape: the Brigitte’s leg opening is 8.75 inches wider than the Chloe’s on the same size (our arithmetic). NYDJ Chloe Capri Jeans in Plus Size
The pick if you want a regular five-pocket capri jean with a zip fly and button. NYDJ describes it in its Cool Embrace denim, made with Coolmax polyester, with side slits at the hems and its Lift Tuck panel, a criss-cross panel built into the front. The listing marks it “Very Stretchy”, the third step of NYDJ’s four-step stretch scale. It suits a reader whose hips fall between NYDJ’s 14W (46 to 48 inches on its chart) and 28W, who wants a narrow leg: the opening is 16.25 inches on a 16W.
Drawbacks: Sizes stop at 28W, which NYDJ's chart puts at a 50 to 52-inch natural waist and a 60 to 62-inch hip. NYDJ asks you to order one size smaller than you usually wear unless you use its True Fit tool; if you pick by the hip column of its chart instead, that step is already done (our reading).
NYDJ Brigitte Wide Leg Capri Jeans in Plus Size
The pick if a slim capri clings to your calves. NYDJ’s description opens with “A major wide leg”, and at 25 inches on a 16W its opening is the widest of the three NYDJ pairs. The listing’s subtitle names a high rise, and its 13.25-inch front rise is the longest NYDJ prints among these three. Its denim is marked “Very Stretchy” on the same NYDJ scale as the Chloe. It has squared front patch pockets, classic back patch pockets, a zip fly with a button and deep trouser hems.
Drawbacks: The same 28W ceiling and size-down advice as the Chloe. The listing describes a body-hugging design through the waist and hips, so the extra room is in the leg, not through the seat (our reading).
NYDJ Dakota Crop Pull-On Jeans in Plus Size
The pick if you want a capri jean with no zip or button, for the least money. It has a wide pull-on waistband, NYDJ’s Lift Tuck panel and side slits at the hems, and NYDJ describes its Soft-Contour denim as a woven Tencel blend with a touch of stretch, and marks it “Stretchy”, one step below the Chloe and Brigitte on its scale. At $42.98 it costs less than half of the Chloe or Brigitte (our arithmetic). The listing calls it a crop, and at 21 inches it sits between the Superfit Hero and the two 23-inch NYDJ pairs.
Drawbacks: It is sold in letter sizes, 1X to 5X, yet the listing says its measurements were taken on a size 16W, so check NYDJ's size guide before you order. The front pockets and the fly are faux; the back pockets are functional.
Superfit Hero SuperHold Capris
The pick if your hips are past 64 inches, where the NYDJ W sizes and Girlfriend Collective’s chart stop. Superfit Hero’s chart, printed on the listing, runs from an L for a 43 to 46-inch hip to a 7X for 82 to 90 inches; its 4X covers 63 to 67. The listing describes two full size pockets, a “Secure, no-slip and no-roll fit”, flat lock seams and “Squat-proof and opaque coverage”. It suits you if you want a capri for walking, exercise or lounging and are happy with a legging fit.
Drawbacks: This is a compression knit, not a trouser: the listing says it fits 'True to size, tight & compressive'. At $98.00 it is the most expensive of the five.
Girlfriend Collective Compressive High-Rise Capri
The pick if you want the shortest capri of the five. Girlfriend Collective calls it its best-selling high-rise legging “now in a shorter 18” capri-length inseam”, and lists it as designed for high-impact workouts, sweat-wicking and sheer-proof. The listing prints the rise by size, 10.25 inches on a small and 12.25 on an XXL, and its own advice is to go with your normal size.
Drawbacks: The only pocket is a small hidden one at the back, sized for keys or cards. Sizes stop at 6XL, which Girlfriend Collective's chart cuts for a 60½ to 64-inch hip.
How to pick between them
By length. Take the inseam of a pair whose hem you like and find the nearest number: 18 inches is the Girlfriend Collective, 20 the Superfit Hero, 21 the Dakota and 23 the Chloe and Brigitte.
By hip. On each brand’s chart, NYDJ’s Chloe and Brigitte run from 14W (a 46 to 48-inch hip) to 28W (60 to 62), Girlfriend Collective’s 6XL covers 60½ to 64 inches, and Superfit Hero’s sizes go on to 90. - Measure first. Lay a pair that fits flat and measure from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside leg, the method NYDJ’s size chart gives.
- Size down at NYDJ once, not twice. NYDJ’s chart already lists your usual other-brand size next to its own (a 16W elsewhere is an NYDJ 14W), so either pick by the hip column or size down from your usual size, not both (our reading).
- Order from each chart, not your usual letter. A Superfit Hero 4X (63 to 67-inch hip) and a Girlfriend Collective 4XL (53½ to 57) are cut for different bodies.
