Wide Width Basketball Shoes: Who Sells 2E, Who Runs Roomy

Two basketball shoes whose maker offers a Wide (2E), two standard-width pairs a lab measured roomy, a 4E high-top for casual games, and the sizes each listed.

Cover card reading “Wide Width Basketball Shoes: Who Sells 2E, Who Runs Roomy” over a basketball resting on a blue and wooden indoor court

Midway through a pickup game, the little toe on each foot is pressed against the side of the shoe, and after a hard cut the whole forefoot hangs over the edge of the sole. Not every shoe even offers a choice: the pages for the two Nike picks, the LeBron Witness 9 and LeBron XXIII, offer no width choice at all. Below are two basketball shoes offered in Wide (2E) on 30 September, two standard-width shoes that a lab measured roomy, for feet that are only a little wide, and a 4E high-top for casual games.

Why standard width is not one number

Nike’s page for the LeBron XXIII labels its fit “Standard”, and neither Nike pick’s page offers a width choice, only sizes. What standard means changes from shoe to shoe. A lab that fills each shoe with gel and measures the set mould puts the average across the 50 basketball shoes it has measured at 92.6 mm across the forefoot. Nike’s Precision 7 came in at 90.4 mm.

Two older New Balance models ran narrow in standard. The Hesi Low v2 measured 89.3 mm; New Balance also sold it in 2E, and its June page listed Standard (D) and Wide (2E). The lab’s reviewer, pointing to that 2E version, wrote that even medium-width feet may have trouble in the standard one over a long session or a full game. The Fresh Foam BB v3 measured 91.0 mm. Sneaker News wrote that the P350 “might replace” the Hesi Low line and called the P400 “an apparent successor” to the Fresh Foam BB. Nothing we read says whether the new models keep those fits, so if your foot is wide, order the 2E (our reading).

The five picks

New Balance P350

$110 at Foot Locker (width not shown)Price for reference only2E (checked 30 Sep) · D, unisex M4 / W5.5 to M18 / W19.5 (June) · no 18 in 2E · 386 gView it on the brand's site →

If you only try one, start here: it is the cheaper of the two 2E picks. New Balance’s P350 page offered Wide (2E) when checked on 30 September. The page as archived on 17 June 2026 also listed Standard (D) and Wide (2E), and its size list shown under Standard ran from M4 / W5.5 to M18 / W19.5, with half sizes up to 12.5. New Balance described it as built for quick cuts and hesitations: a FuelCell midsole that is denser on the outside edge for support, a mesh upper backed by a synthetic and TPU frame, and a rubber outsole with a multidirectional tread. That page gave its weight as 386 grams (13.6 oz). Foot Locker sells it as the P350 Low, at $110 on 30 September, in a listing that does not show a width; New Balance’s June page showed $109.99.

Drawbacks: No 18 in 2E when checked on 30 September; select Wide to see the sizes. The D sizes are from the June page, in whole sizes only above 12.5.

New Balance P400

$130 at Foot Locker (width not shown)Price for reference only2E (checked 30 Sep) · D, unisex M4 / W5.5 to M18 / W19.5, no 12.5 (June) · no 18 in 2E · 422 gView it on the brand's site →

The one for players who jump and land through a whole game. New Balance’s P400 page offered Wide (2E) when checked on 30 September. The page as archived on 7 June 2026 also listed Standard (D) and Wide (2E), and its size list under Standard ran from M4 / W5.5 to M18 / W19.5, in half sizes to 12 and then 13 to 18. New Balance described EVA foam with a Fresh Foam X core, a nylon plate for starts and stops, a stiffer foam inlay on the outside of the midsole for stability, and a moulded TPU upper under perforated mesh, and gave the weight as 422 grams (14.9 oz). Foot Locker had it at $130 on 30 September, with no width shown, against $129.99 on New Balance’s June page.

Drawbacks: Heavier than the P350. As with the P350, no 18 in 2E on 30 September, and the D sizes are from the June page.

Nike LeBron Witness 9

$62.97 in Black/Coconut Milk/Iron GreyPrice for reference onlyOne width · unisex, M3.5 / W5 to M18 / W19.5 · 95.8 mm lab forefootView it on the brand's site →

For a foot that is only a little wide. Nike’s page offers no width choice, but in the lab’s mould it measured 95.8 mm across the forefoot and 71.0 mm at the big toe, against averages of 92.6 and 69.2 mm, and the reviewer wrote that it seems to share a last, or a very similar one, with the LeBron XXIII. Nike’s page lists M3.5 / W5 to M18 / W19.5, and describes a full-length ReactX midsole, webbing in the lacing for a secure fit, and a rubber outsole meant for indoor and outdoor courts. Its forefoot has a herringbone tread that the lab’s reviewer says is widened for regular outdoor use.

Drawbacks: Nike's page offers no width choice, so a foot well past standard has nowhere to go (our reading). The lab weighed it at 15.1 oz in a men's 9, against its 13.9 oz average.

Nike LeBron XXIII

$210Price for reference onlyOne width, labelled Standard · unisex, M3.5 / W5 to M18 / W19.5 · 96.2 mm lab forefootView it on the brand's site →

The signature LeBron on the same kind of fit. It measured 96.2 mm across the forefoot, the widest of the five lab forefoot figures on this page (Hesi Low v2, Fresh Foam BB v3, Precision 7, Witness 9 and this one), and weighed 15.5 oz in a men’s 9. Nike lists a full-length ZoomX midsole, a carbon fibre plate, a crown-shaped containment system around the foot and a jacquard upper with a bootie lining, on the same M3.5 to M18 size run as the Witness 9.

Drawbacks: The most expensive of the five picks, $80 more than the P400's Foot Locker price (our arithmetic). Its toe box narrows to 69.9 mm at the big toe, close to the lab's 69.2 mm average, so wide toes get less room than the forefoot figure suggests.

FitVille Rebound Core V4 High

$89Price for reference onlyWide/2E or Extra Wide/4E · men's US 8 to 15 · about 380 gView it on the brand's site →

The one 4E shoe among the five picks. FitVille says the high-top “creates an iconic basketball look”, and lists a wide toe box, a rigid rubber outsole and a suede upper, with a removable insole that FitVille says gives arch support. Its page lists both Wide/2E and Extra Wide/4E for each of its 13 sizes, US 8 to 15, in two colours. It is the cheapest of the three picks sold in a wide width (2E or 4E).

Drawbacks: No lab figure, and its page does not describe court play, so keep it to the driveway or a casual game (our reading). Sizes stop at 15, in whole sizes above 13.

The lab measures the inside of the shoe, not a foot, so use its numbers to compare shoes with each other, not with your own tape measure.

How to choose

  • Measure your foot across the widest part, in centimetres. Our guide on how to measure foot size covers the tape and paper method.
  • Hold it against New Balance’s width chart. On the chart printed on the P350 page in June, a men’s 11 was 10.8 cm across in D, 11.1 cm in 2E and 11.5 cm in 4E; a men’s 13 was 11.2, 11.6 and 11.9 cm. At or under the 2E figure, order the P350 or P400 in 2E.
  • Just over the D figure? A standard shoe that measured roomy may do (our reading): the Witness 9 for less money, the LeBron XXIII for ZoomX foam and a carbon plate.
  • Past the 2E figure? Neither New Balance pick was listed wider than 2E on its June page, and the two Nike pages offer no width choice. The FitVille 4E is the fallback for casual play (our reading).
  • Match the shoe to how you play. If you rebound and land a lot, the P400, which New Balance described as built for a full game of take-offs and landings; if you are a guard who lives on cuts, the lighter P350.
  • Over size 15? The two Nike picks list 16, 17 and 18, and the New Balance pages did in D in June. In 2E neither offered an 18 on 30 September. For length in inches, see our shoe size chart in inches.

Before you order

  1. Use the centimetre columns. On New Balance’s width chart in June the inch columns rounded 2E and 4E to the same fraction at every size listed, from 4 1/8 at a men’s 6 to 4 7/8 at a 16; the centimetres differed by 0.3 to 0.4 (our arithmetic).
  2. The width chart stopped at 16. The P350 and P400 size lists ran to 18 in D in June, so above 16 the chart gave no width figure to check against.
  3. Pick your width first, then your size. The New Balance pages show sizes for the width selected, so select Wide (2E) and check your size is offered before you add it to the bag.
  4. Women read the second number. The Nike pages list men’s and women’s sizes together, and in June every tile on New Balance’s women’s basketball page, P400, P350 and Hesi Low v2 colourways, read Unisex Basketball. Our guide to shoe width sizes explains how the men’s and women’s width letters line up.
  5. Try them on a hard floor. Walk, stop and push off sideways on a hard floor at home before wearing them outside, so the wrong width can still go back.

Where these numbers come from

New Balance’s 2E, and the missing 18 in it, were checked in a browser on its live pages on 30 September 2026; its D size lists, specs and width chart are from its June 2026 pages on the Internet Archive. Nike and FitVille details and current prices are from the same day, except the Witness 9 price, read on 1 October 2026; Nike prices it by colourway. Lab forefoot and toe box widths, and the Nike weights, are RunRepeat’s measurements.

Frequently asked questions

Do basketball shoes come in wide widths?

New Balance's P350 and P400 pages offered Wide (2E) when checked on 30 September and listed Standard (D) in June; the pages for the two Nike picks, the LeBron Witness 9 and LeBron XXIII, offer sizes only. In 2E, neither New Balance page offered an 18 that day, so select Wide to see the sizes before you order.

Is there a 4E basketball shoe?

No 4E court shoe among the ones we read. FitVille sells a 4E high-top, in US 8 to 15, that it says 'creates an iconic basketball look'; its page does not describe court play, so keep it to casual games (our reading).

Are there women's wide basketball shoes?

The four court-shoe picks are unisex and sized in men's, with the women's size printed after it. In June, New Balance's women's basketball page offered two width filters, Wide (D) and X-Wide (2E); there, a unisex D was the women's Wide. Our shoe width sizes guide explains how the letters line up.

What size basketball shoes go up to 18?

In their standard width, all four court-shoe picks list men's 18: the New Balance P350 and P400 in D on their June pages, and the Nike LeBron Witness 9 and LeBron XXIII. In 2E, neither New Balance page offered an 18 when checked on 30 September; select Wide to see the sizes. The FitVille high-top stops at US 15.
