Heavy Duty Patio Swings With Canopy: Five Rated 750–800 lb

Five canopy patio swings rated 750 to 800 lb, with the seat width, seat height and footprint each brand prints, and how to split the bench between two or three.

Cover card reading “Heavy Duty Patio Swings With Canopy: Five Rated 750–800 lb” over a woman resting on a cushioned canopy swing among autumn trees

You sit down on the swing with someone beside you and your hips meet the armrest before you are settled, even though the box promised hundreds of pounds. Buying by that weight figure does not tell you how much bench you get: the highest figures here, 800 lb and 780 lb printed on the same page, are on a swing sold as a 2-seat whose page and product images give no seat width at all, while a 750 lb three-seater prints its bench as 60.2 inches. So each of the five canopy swings below comes with the weight figure, the seat width and seat height its brand prints, and who it suits.

The short answer

Swing Best for Price (reference) Weight figure, seat width
Purple Leaf 3-Seat Porch Swing with Cushion The widest printed bench $329 750 lb, 60.2 in
Purple Leaf Porch Swing with PVC Canopy A hard roof instead of fabric $389–$420 750 lb (spec; one image says 800), 59 in
Purple Leaf Porch Swing with Tilt Canopy (mesh) The deepest printed seat, no cushions to dry out $289 (3-seat) 772 lb, 57.48 in
Best Choice 3-Seat Canopy Swing Glider The lowest price, and a bench that lies flat $220–$240 750 lb, 51 or 58 in
Grand Patio 2-Seat Patio Swing Chair The highest weight figure, even on its lower number $230 800 lb (spec); 780 (second description block), not printed

Read the weight figure as the whole swing

Read each weight figure as the whole swing, not per seat (our reading): Best Choice’s 750 lb figure “comfortably seats you and your two favorite guests”, and Purple Leaf gives its mesh swing one figure for “both” the 2-seat and the 3-seat. If two or three of you sit together, add your weights and keep a margin under the figure (our suggestion). Split three ways, 750 lb is 250 lb a person and 772 lb is about 257 (our arithmetic).

The seat width is the second number to read, and the brands print it in different places. Purple Leaf puts it on a dimension image in the photo gallery, not in the spec list. Best Choice prints two numbers. Grand Patio prints none. Dividing each bench by three gives roughly 17 to 20 inches a person (our arithmetic), so a three-seater may seat two larger adults more comfortably than three.

Purple Leaf 3-Seat Porch Swing with Cushion and Adjustable Canopy

$329Price for reference only750 lb · bench 60.2 in wide, seat 18.7 in high · 75.2 in wide, 45.7 in deep, 71.9 in tallView it on the brand's site →

The widest bench here: the dimension image in the gallery gives the seat as 60.2 inches, about 20 inches a person if three sit (our arithmetic), with a 20.8 inch back. The page prints “Supporting up to 750 lbs.” and a 3.5 inch foam seat cushion with a back cushion. A table folds down on each side for a drink or a phone. The fabric canopy tilts up to 45 degrees and, in Purple Leaf’s words, is PU coated and “tested for 1,000 hours of sun exposure”. Grey and Beige are both $329.

Drawbacks: The seat depth is not printed: the spec line labelled Seat Cushion Depth gives 3.5 inches, the same figure the features give for the cushion's thickness (our reading). At 18.7 inches it is also the lowest seat of the four that print a height.

Purple Leaf Outdoor Porch Swing with Adjustable PVC Canopy, 3-Seat

$389–$420Price for reference only750 lb in the spec list · bench 59 in wide, 18 in deep, 20 in high · 76.77 in wide, 47.24 in deep, 70.86 in tall · 100 lbView it on the brand's site →

The pick if fabric canopies have let you down: the roof is a rigid panel, which the title calls a PVC canopy and the features an “adjustable hardtop polycarbonate panel canopy” that “protects against UV rays and rain”. Gallery images show the knob that tilts it. The bench is 59 inches wide on the dimension image, with a 22.8 inch back and an 18 inch seat depth in the spec list; a gallery image shows a metal seat frame under the cushions. It comes with three cushions, a roll pillow and side tables with cup holders, which the gallery shows folding down. Beige is $389 and Gray $420.

Drawbacks: Two weight figures: the features and spec list say 750 lb, and a close-up of the spring hook in the gallery says 800. Buy against the lower one (our suggestion). At 100 lb it is the heaviest swing here to move or assemble.

Purple Leaf Porch Swing with Adjustable Tilt Canopy (Textilene)

$289 (3-seat), $269 (2-seat)Price for reference only772 lb · 3-seat bench 57.48 in wide, 21.3 in deep, 20.5 in high · 76 in long, 49.2 in deep, 67.9 in tallView it on the brand's site →

The deepest printed seat here: 21.3 inches on both sizes, against 18 on the hardtop and a 21 on the Best Choice spec line, part not named, so it suits you if your thighs run past the front of a shallow bench. The weight figure is “772 LBS” for “both” the 2-seat and the 3-seat. Seat and back are Textilene mesh, which Purple Leaf describes as breathable and quick-drying, and there are side pockets for a phone or a drink. The canopy tilts. The dimension image for the 3-seat gives the bench as 57.48 inches wide and 20.5 high. Silver Grey, Cream and Khaki are $289 for the 3-seat and $269 for the 2-seat.

Drawbacks: No cushions: you sit on the mesh itself. At 57.48 inches the 3-seat bench is narrower than the other two Purple Leaf swings, about 19 inches a person if three sit (our arithmetic). The 2-seat is 38.19 inches.

Best Choice Products 3-Seat Outdoor Canopy Swing Glider

$220–$240Price for reference only750 lb · seat 51 in (features) or 58 in long (spec list), 20 in high · 75 in long, 47 in deep, 69 in tall · 82 lbView it on the brand's site →

The lowest price of the five, and the only bench that lies flat: a lock and release system turns the seat into a flatbed. The features print a “750-pound weight capacity”, the spec list “Weight Capacity: 750 lbs.”, and the seat is 20 inches off the ground. The canopy tilts up to 45 degrees forward and back. If you need the 51 inch figure to be the real one, that is 17 inches a person for three, or 25.5 for two (our arithmetic). It starts at $220; Graphite Gray, Ocean Navy and Merlot Red are $240.

Drawbacks: Two seat widths on one page: the features say a 51 inch seat and the spec list says 58 by 21 by 21 inches, without saying which part each measures. The canopy and cushion covers are polyester.

Grand Patio Outdoor 2-Seat Patio Swing Chair with Adjustable Tilt Canopy

$230Price for reference only800 lb in the spec list, 780 lb in a second description block · 75 in wide, 51.25 in deep, 73.25 in tall · 76.25 lb · seat width and height not printedView it on the brand's site →

The highest weight figure here, even on its lower number: the spec list prints “Item Weight Capacity 800 LBS”, the description says it “can withstand up to 800 pounds of weight”, and a gallery image of the spring says “tested to 800 pound weight capacity”, but a second description block further down the page says “up to 780 pounds”, which is still above the 772 lb mesh swing. The seat cushion is Olefin, which Grand Patio rates for 1200 UV hours. The polyester canopy adjusts and rotates. It is $230.

Drawbacks: Neither the spec list, the description nor the ten product images give a seat width or seat height, and it is sold as a 2-seat while the description says it accommodates 2 to 3 people. Ask Grand Patio for the bench width before you order (our suggestion). The page prints two weight figures, 800 and 780 lb; buy against the lower one (our suggestion).

How to choose

  1. Add up who will sit, against the weight figure. The figures run from 750 lb to 800 lb. Add the weights of everyone who will sit at once and keep a margin under the figure (our suggestion). Where a page gives two numbers, as the hardtop and the Grand Patio pages do, use the lower one.
  2. Your seated hip width, against the bench. Sit on a hard, flat seat and measure across the widest part of your hips; our wide office chair guide has the full method. Add the widths of everyone who sits together and compare the total with the bench: 60.2 inches on the cushioned Purple Leaf, 59 on the hardtop, 57.48 on the mesh 3-seat, 51 on the Best Choice glider if you go by its smaller figure; Grand Patio does not print one. Leave some room to spare rather than matching the bench exactly (our suggestion).
  3. The back of your knee, against the seat height. Sit, feet flat, and measure from the floor to the back of your knee (our suggestion). The printed seats run from 18.7 inches (cushioned Purple Leaf) to 20.5 (mesh 3-seat); a seat near your number lets your feet reach the ground to push off and stand.
  4. Your canopy. Only the Purple Leaf hardtop has a rigid panel roof. The other four have fabric canopies that tilt or adjust.
  5. The space. Each of these swings is a freestanding frame; the printed overall sizes run from 75 to 76.77 inches wide and 45.7 to 51.25 inches deep. Measure the patio or porch and leave room for the bench to move (our suggestion).

Before you order

  • Check the size you are ordering. The mesh Purple Leaf comes as a 2-seat and a 3-seat with the same 772 lb figure but a 38.19 or 57.48 inch bench.
  • Check the color. Prices differ by color on two of the five (Best Choice and the Purple Leaf hardtop), and by size on the mesh Purple Leaf.
  • Plan for the weight. The three pages that print it give the swing itself as 76.25 lb (Grand Patio) to 100 lb (Purple Leaf hardtop); the boxes will weigh more, so have a second person for delivery and assembly (our suggestion).
  • Read the store’s return terms before paying, including who pays return shipping on a large box.

If you would rather rock than swing, see our heavy duty rocking chair picks, and for single chairs to sit beside the swing, our heavy duty lawn chairs. More chairs bought by the numbers are in our seating section.

Where these numbers come from

Weight figures, bench sizes, features and prices are from the five product pages, their spec lists and the dimension images in their galleries, all read on 21 October 2026. Per-person widths and weights are our arithmetic.

Frequently asked questions

What weight do these heavy duty patio swings with canopy hold?

Grand Patio prints 800 lb for its 2-seat swing in its spec list and 780 lb in a second description block on the same page. Purple Leaf prints 772 lb for its mesh swing, and 750 lb for its cushioned swing and its hardtop swing, though one hardtop product image shows 800. Best Choice Products prints 750 lb for its 3-seat glider. Read each figure as the whole swing (our reading), so add up everyone who sits on it.

How wide is the seat on a 3-seat canopy swing?

On the three Purple Leaf swings here, the dimension images give 60.2 inches (cushioned), 59 inches (hardtop) and 57.48 inches (mesh, 3-seat). Best Choice gives its glider as a 51 inch seat in the feature list and 58 inches long in the spec list. Split three ways that is roughly 17 to 20 inches a person (our arithmetic).

Which of these swings has a hard canopy instead of fabric?

Only the Purple Leaf hardtop swing. Its title calls the roof a PVC canopy and its feature list a hardtop polycarbonate panel that protects against UV rays and rain. The other four have fabric canopies that tilt or rotate.

Can any of these swings be used lying down?

The Best Choice glider's bench converts to a flatbed with a lock and release system. Best Choice does not say whether the 750 lb figure changes when it is flat, so ask before you lie on it with someone else (our suggestion).
