This guide takes six towels sold as bath sheets or large bath towels, prints their inches, and measures each against the 27 by 54 that one supplier calls standard, with the price on 20 September 2026.

What the word is attached to

Two brands print “oversized” against a towel size. American Soft Linen’s size guide runs from “small washcloths (13” x 13”) to oversized bath sheets (40” x 80”)“, with a “Jumbo Bath Towel (35” x 70”)” between, and calls 27 by 54 the standard bath towel. Onsen prints “Oversized 38 x 67 in” on its waffle bath sheet. Brooklinen uses the word only for a bath mat, and its FAQ defines the bath sheet category instead: “A Bath Sheet is larger (typically 35”x60”+)“.

So the biggest bath towel or bath sheet on any page we read is American Soft Linen’s 40 by 80, and it is the one pick missing from the table: that listing carried a strikethrough price when we read it, so under our rule no price is quoted and it sits here as a size, not a pick. If 80 inches round is what you need, that is the listing to open; the 40 by 80 bath sheet is 600 GSM ring-spun cotton.

The long side is the number

Wrapped the usual way, the long side goes round you and the short side runs top to bottom. The six picks split cleanly on that axis. Three bath towels sit at 56 to 58 inches round, two to four inches more than the 27 by 54, which is the margin between closing edge to edge and having something to tuck. Onsen Supima Waffle Bath Sheet, 38 by 67, $89. Waffle weave rather than terry, and the listing is the one that prints “Oversized” on the size line. Two inches narrower than the other two sheets.

GSM does not make a towel bigger

Brooklinen’s definition: “GSM (grams per square meter) measures how dense and heavy a towel is. Higher GSM = thicker and more absorbent; lower GSM = lighter and faster-drying.” It is a weight per square, so a 770 GSM sheet and a 320 GSM sheet of the same inches are the same size; Brooklinen’s words for the heavier one are “thicker and more absorbent” and for the lighter “faster-drying”. The one brand here that prints no GSM, Onsen, is not smaller for it.

• Read the long side, then the price per towel. Brooklinen’s prices are for two.
• A bath sheet is not one size. 65 to 70 round across the three here, 80 at the marked-down one.
• “Oversized” on a listing is a word. Onsen attaches it to 38 by 67, American Soft Linen to 40 by 80.
• The standard you are measuring against is one supplier’s. 27 by 54 is what American Soft Linen calls standard and hotel size; where the other brands’ plain bath towels fall is in standard bath towel size.
