Plus Size Activewear: 8 Picks Beyond Leggings and Bras
Eight plus size activewear pieces for everything but leggings and bras, from tees and bike shorts to joggers, with the sizes, fabric, care and price of each.

The leggings and sports bra are sorted, and then the rest of the outfit lets you down: a tee that rides up over your stomach on the first stretch, shorts that roll at the hem and leave your inner thighs sore by the end of a walk. Going up a size for more room can just add loose fabric that twists and flaps. Below are eight pieces for the rest of the outfit, each with the sizes its listing sells, what it is made of, how to wash it and what it costs.

What each size chart gives you
Four brands, four ways of labelling a size, so compare your measurements, not the letter.
Superfit Hero sells these three pieces in L to 7X and prints US sizes next to inches on its size chart: L is US 12–14, 3X is US 22–24 with a 51 to 54-inch bust and 58 to 62-inch hips, and 7X is US 40–44 with a 67 to 71-inch bust and 82 to 90-inch hips. Note that XL (16–18) and 2X (18–20) both list an 18.
Universal Standard names each size as a letter and a numeric pair. Its body chart, printed as an image on each listing, puts its L (22–24) against a conventional 3X, with 54 to 58-inch hips, and its 4XL (38–40) against a conventional 7X, with 76 to 84-inch hips. Each listing also carries a garment chart with that piece’s own measurements.
Girlfriend Collective prints inches only, no US numbers. On its dresses and unitards chart, XXXL is a 46½ to 50-inch bust and 50 to 53½-inch hips, and 6XL is a 57 to 60½-inch bust and 60½ to 64-inch hips.
Knix sells XS to XXXXL. Knix’s inch chart is only on its product page; check XXXXL there before ordering.
If you have not measured recently, the method is in how to measure your bust, waist and hips.

The eight
Universal Standard Mia Movement Tee
$68 as of 28 Sep 2026 · 4XS (00–0) to 4XL (38–40) · View it on the brand’s site →
A short-sleeve crew-neck tee in 63 percent polyester, 34 percent rayon and 3 percent spandex, which the listing sells as “sweat-wicking, antimicrobial fabric”. Its “forward-shifted side seams make for an easy, flexible fit”, and the fit note reads “Runs True: We suggest you take your regular size.” Its garment chart gives a 29.5-inch body length, 50-inch chest and 10-inch sleeve at L (22–24), rising to 32, 72 and 12 inches at 4XL (38–40). It is the pick if you want one plain tee for workouts and errands that can go in the dryer: the care line says tumble dry low.
Drawbacks: the care line rules out fabric softener, and at $68 it costs more than the Superfit Hero tank.
Superfit Hero SuperSoft Cinch Tank
$58 as of 28 Sep 2026 · L to 7X · View it on the brand’s site →
A “Full coverage muscle tank” with a “Long line for extra coverage” and pull strings you cinch to adjust the fit, in 86 percent polyester and 14 percent spandex. The listing lists “Flat lock seams for chafing-free comfort” and calls the fit “True to size, light compression.” At $58, the lowest price here, it suits you if you want a longer tank.
Drawbacks: it has no built-in bra, the listing gives no length in inches despite the long-line cut, and the care line says lay flat to dry.
Superfit Hero SuperHold Shorts 9 inch
$75 as of 28 Sep 2026 · L to 7X · View it on the brand’s site →
Bike shorts with a 9-inch inseam, two full size pockets and flat lock seams, in 88 percent polyester and 12 percent spandex. The listing sells them as a “Secure, no-slip and no-roll fit” and calls the fit “True to size, tight & compressive.” The same shorts are also sold in 6-inch and 11-inch lengths at $75. The listing names one model as wearing 4X with a 52-inch waist and 62-inch hips. These are the shorts to start with if your inner thighs rub.
Drawbacks: tight and compressive by the listing’s own description, so they are not for you if you want shorts that hang loose, and they are lay flat to dry.
Universal Standard Rebel Active Shorts
$88 as of 28 Sep 2026 · 4XS (00–0) to 4XL (38–40) · View it on the brand’s site →
Shorts with a lightweight outer layer over a built-in bike short. The listing says the outer layer “adds ease and freedom of movement”, the inner short “helps prevent chafing”, and “the inner layer includes pockets”. The fabric line gives 100 percent polyester for the outer and 81 percent nylon, 19 percent Lycra for the inner, though the description calls the outer layer nylon. It has an elasticated waist, and the care line says tumble dry low.
Drawbacks: a 4.5-inch inseam in every size on its garment chart, the shortest here (the chart does not say which layer it measures); the pockets sit on the inner short rather than the outer one; and at $88 it is the dearest pair of shorts here.
Superfit Hero SuperSoft Skort
$78 as of 28 Sep 2026 · L to 7X · View it on the brand’s site →
A knee-length skort with a “High, supportive waist band” and shorts underneath with a 9-inch inseam and two full size pockets, in the same 86 percent polyester, 14 percent spandex fabric as the tank. The listing names one model as wearing 5X with a 60-inch waist and 73-inch hips. It suits walks and the school run when you want a skirt over 9-inch shorts.
Drawbacks: “knee-length” is the only length the listing gives for the skirt, and it is lay flat to dry.
Girlfriend Collective Black Bike Unitard
$98 as of 28 Sep 2026 · XXS to 6XL · View it on the brand’s site →
A one-piece with a scoop neck, low back and built-in bra, bike short length with a 6-inch inseam, and “No waist or center front seams for a smooth finish”. The fabric is 79 percent recycled water bottles (RPET) and 21 percent spandex, and the care line says wash cold and dry flat. For sizing, the brand’s FAQ says “Generally, we recommend taking the size you’d get in tops for unitards and dresses.” It is the one for a single piece with nothing to roll at the waist.
Drawbacks: the listing says “Designed for low to medium-impact workouts”; by our reading, not the piece for high-impact sessions; 6XL tops out at 64-inch hips, the lowest top end of the three charts here that print inches; the care line warns “colors may bleed at first”.
Knix CloudCut Jogger
$108 as of 28 Sep 2026 · XS to XXXXL · View it on the brand’s site →
High-rise joggers with “Clean bonded seams, flat waistband with drawcord, ankle cuffs, and side pockets”, in 72 percent nylon and 28 percent elastane, sold “to the gym, errands, or the airport”. The listing offers three colours: Sphere, Twilight Navy and Black. It is the pick for a jogger you can wear to the gym and on from there.
Drawbacks: Knix’s inch chart is only on its product page, so check XXXXL there before ordering; the listing prints no inseam; the care line says hang to dry.
Universal Standard Next-to-Naked Hooded Zip Jacket
$144 as of 28 Sep 2026 · 4XS (00–0) to 4XL (38–40) · View it on the brand’s site →
A hooded zip jacket with zip pockets and long sleeves with thumbholes, in 81 percent nylon and 19 percent Lycra, which the listing calls a “close-to-the-body fit”. It is the layer for the walk to and from the gym, over a tee or tank, and the care line allows tumble dry low.
Drawbacks: at $144 it is the most expensive of the eight, and the listing pitches it for going over second-skin styles without bulk, so by our reading it is not cut to go over a sweatshirt.

How to choose
- Your thighs rub: the Superfit Hero shorts or skort, both with a 9-inch inseam and flat lock seams, or the 11-inch version of the shorts. The Rebel’s garment chart gives a 4.5-inch inseam.
- Your hips are over 64 inches: the Girlfriend Collective unitard stops there at 6XL. Superfit Hero’s chart runs to 90-inch hips at 7X and Universal Standard’s to 84 inches at 4XL (40).
- You want less compression: the Mia tee (“an easy, flexible fit”) or the Rebel shorts (an outer layer that “adds ease and freedom of movement”); neither listing mentions compression. Superfit Hero calls its tank and skort “light compression” and its SuperHold shorts “tight & compressive”; the unitard is sold as compressive.
- You want the dryer: only the three Universal Standard pieces say tumble dry low.
Before you order
- Measure your waist and hips and read them against the brand’s own chart, not the letter on the label: a Girlfriend Collective 6XL (60½ to 64-inch hips) straddles Superfit Hero’s 3X (58 to 62) and 4X (63 to 67), by our reading of the two charts.
- Read each store’s returns page before you buy.
The rest of the fit guides are in clothing and fit.
Where these numbers come from
Sizes, prices, fabrics, inseams, care lines and quoted phrases are copied from each brand’s own product listing and size chart, read on 28 September 2026, in US dollars. The comparison between the Girlfriend Collective and Superfit Hero charts is our own reading.
