What each size chart gives you

The women’s shirts here deal with gape in how the front is made; the chart decides whether you can size from your bust or have to guess.

Wildfang prints body measurements on each listing: 2X is a 49 to 53-inch chest, 3X is 53 to 57 and 4X is 57 to 61, with hips of 58 to 62 inches at 4X. Kirrin Finch prints chest and waist for each numbered size; size 20 is a 47.5-inch chest, 22 is 49.5 and 24 is 51.5. Universal Standard names each size as a letter and a numeric pair, from 4XS_00-0 to 4XL_38-40, and says “Our sample size is an 18, and we engineer every single size from there”. Its inch chart did not come through as text when we read the listing, so open the size guide on the product page before you choose.

A cotton poplin shirt with a point collar and oversized French cuffs, made with Lauren Chan of Henning. The listing describes “a classic button placket with our signature hidden snaps to prevent gaping”; our reading is that the snaps hold the front shut between the buttons. It suits you if you want a white shirt for the office in a size run to 4XL (38–40).

Drawbacks: the page’s Fabric & Care tab gives 65 percent cotton, 32 percent nylon and 3 percent spandex, while the store’s product data says 98 percent cotton and 2 percent elastane, so check the label when it arrives. In white, 4XS, 3XS and 4XL were sold out on 28 September 2026, and the inch chart is not on the page as text.

Kirrin Finch Addams Easy-Care Stretch Dress Shirt

A menswear-style dress shirt with a spread collar, in 97 percent cotton and 3 percent elastane with an easy-care finish the listing calls “more wrinkle-resistant”. Its front has nine buttons, listed as “9 button front - reduced chest gape”. It is the one to pick if you want a formal collar and a shirt that needs less ironing.

Drawbacks: the range stops at size 24, a 51.5-inch chest on the brand’s chart. White was sold out in every size and black in sizes 0 to 6 and 24 on 28 September 2026. At $165 it is tied with the Frankie as the most expensive shirt here, and the listing prints no sleeve length.

Kirrin Finch Frankie Classic Stretch Dress Shirt

The same 9-button front, with a spread collar, a tailored fit and a hint of stretch, plus two details the listing names for this version: “Added length so can be tucked in” and a “New larger collar circumference”. Neither Kirrin Finch listing prints a body length or collar size, so ask before choosing between the two on those grounds.

Drawbacks: it is sold in four patterns and cords (Navy Rosette, Floral Fête, Shadow Corduroy and Turtle Corduroy) rather than a plain white or blue, and at the top of the range on 28 September 2026, Shadow Corduroy was sold out in 22 and 24 and Turtle Corduroy in 20, 22 and 24. The size ceiling and price are the same as the Addams.

Wildfang Empower Oxford Storm Flap Button Up

A white 100 percent cotton oxford with a relaxed fit, a slightly dropped shoulder, a classic collar, a storm flap on the right chest and a covered button placket. Our reading: a covered placket puts a strip of fabric over the buttons, so any pull between them is hidden rather than removed. Wildfang’s chart reaches a 57 to 61-inch chest at 4X, and the listing names its sizes from XS through XXL and then 1X to 4X.

Drawbacks: the listing makes no anti-gape claim of its own, prints no sleeve length, and asks you to lay it flat to dry and press the placket, cuffs and collar.

Drawbacks: the care line says “Do not steam” and lay flat to dry, so it is more work than the easy-care Kirrin Finch shirt, and like the oxford its listing prints no sleeve length.

The two that matter here: Relaxed Fit, with “Three extra inches of room in the body without any extra length”, whose chart puts XXXL at a 53 to 55-inch chest; and Tall Regular Fit, “Two inches longer in the sleeves and body for the tall guy”, with a 38.5 to 39.5-inch sleeve at XXXL. It also comes in Slim and Tall Slim. It suits a big man who wants room through the middle, or a tall one whose cuffs ride up.

Drawbacks: the Regular Fit is cut to the brand’s untucked length and “runs slightly smaller than traditional shirt brands”, and on 28 September 2026 the Relaxed XXXL was sold out in navy, as was the listed XXX-L Classic size in both fits it appears in.

Eddie Bauer Men’s Eddie’s Oxford Shirt

Eddie Bauer’s chart puts XXXL at a 54 to 56-inch chest, a 19 to 19.5-inch neck and a 36.5 to 37-inch sleeve, and its Tall fit, for 6’2” to 6’5”, adds “longer sleeves and body”. The lowest price of the seven.

Drawbacks: our reading is that a button-down oxford reads as business casual rather than a suit shirt, and the range stops at XXXL in both fits.

How to choose

• Your bust is over 51.5 inches: that is past Kirrin Finch’s size 24, so look at Wildfang (2X is a 49 to 53-inch chest, 3X 53 to 57, 4X 57 to 61) or Universal Standard, whose range runs to 4XL (38–40); check its inch chart on the listing first.
• The gap between buttons is the whole problem: the Madison’s hidden snaps are sold “to prevent gaping”, and Kirrin Finch’s nine buttons as “reduced chest gape”; Wildfang’s covered placket hides the buttons but makes no claim about gape.
• Sleeves end short: among these seven, only the men’s listings print a sleeve length. Measure from the centre back of your neck to your wrist, arm extended, as Eddie Bauer’s chart describes, and compare. For the women’s shirts, ask the brand for the sleeve length of your size before ordering.
• A bigger middle than chest (men): UNTUCKit’s Relaxed Fit adds body room without extra length; Eddie Bauer’s chart gives a 48 to 50-inch waist at XXXL.
