What each size chart gives you

The three brands publish three different kinds of chart, and that decides how much you can check before ordering.

Eddie Bauer prints body measurements in inches: bust, waist and hip. On its women’s chart, Plus 2X is a 48 to 50-inch bust and a 50 to 52-inch hip, and 3X is 52 to 54 and 54 to 56. The women’s tables have no sleeve column. Each of the three Eddie Bauer coat listings below prints one length figure in its Fit line.

BloomChic prints two charts on the trench below: body measurements (bust, waist, hip) that run to a 61.8 to 65.7-inch bust and a 65.7 to 70.1-inch hip at 6X, and the coat’s own measurements (length, shoulder, bust and sleeve length) for each of its eight sizes. That second chart is the one that answers “will the sleeves reach”.

Universal Standard names each size as a letter and a numeric pair, from 4XS_00-0 to 4XL_38-40, and says “Our sample size is an 18, and we engineer every single size from there”. Its measurement chart did not come through as text when we read the listings, so open the size guide on the product page before you choose between two sizes.

A classic duffle with horn-shaped toggles, a roomy hood, a button tab neckline, hip pockets and a curved hem, in a shell of 80 percent wool blend, 15 percent polyester and 5 percent other, with a polyester lining. It suits you if you want a wool coat for real cold in the widest size run here, tied with the other Universal Standard picks.

Drawbacks: at $448 it is the most expensive of the eight, it is dry clean only, and the listing gives no length.

Universal Standard Callaghan Wool Blend Coat

Our reading: dropped shoulders put the shoulder seam lower on the arm than a set-in sleeve, which is the cut to try if coats catch you across the upper arm.

Drawbacks: the listing sells the cocoon cut as “not restrictive”, so if you want a belted, waist-defined coat, one of the trenches is closer, and it is dry clean only.

Drawbacks: it is unlined, so it is not a cold-weather coat; in black the 4XL was sold out on 27 September 2026; dry clean only.

Eddie Bauer Lodge Down Duffle Jacket

The listing gives a 46-inch back length, the longest single figure on the three Eddie Bauer listings, though it does not say which size that is. For the coldest days if you are within Eddie Bauer’s 3X.

Drawback: the Plus fit on this listing has only 2X and 3X, so 3X (a 52 to 54-inch bust on its chart) is the ceiling; choose Plus in the Fit selector or you are looking at Regular sizes.

Eddie Bauer Girl on the Go Insulated Trench

Drawbacks: its Fit line’s 34¾ inches at a regular medium is the smallest of the three Eddie Bauer length figures, and the Plus range again stops at 3X.

BloomChic Double Breasted Belted Long Trench Coat

A lined, belted cotton trench with a button front and side pockets, sold as “Tailored for mid and plus-size women”. Its garment chart runs from a 44.1-inch bust at M to 68.5 inches at 6X, sleeves from 23.2 to 26.4 inches, and length from 43.3 to 48.8 inches, so you can check sleeve and hem before ordering. The lowest price of the eight.

Drawbacks: the listing names no insulation and no water finish, so it is a mild-weather coat, and the listing’s care line says hand wash in cold water.

How to choose

• Your bust is over 54 inches or your hips over 56: Eddie Bauer’s Plus chart stops there at 3X, so look at BloomChic, whose body chart goes to a 65.7-inch bust at 6X, or Universal Standard, whose size guide equates its 4XL (38–40) with a 7X elsewhere; its inch chart did not come through as text, so check it on the listing before ordering.
• Rain is the main job: the Girl on the Go trench or the Cloud Cap parka, the two listed as waterproof and seam sealed. The Henning trench is water-resistant only.
• Real cold: the Lodge down duffle, or the Highlands wool duffle if you want wool and a size above 3X.
